I am traveling to italy. My sony dvd 101 handycam

Next month I am traveling to italy. My sony dvd 101 handycam has a charger which I purchased in the US. Is there a converter to charge the battery in italy or do i need to purchase another battery in the us and bring 2 batteries with me instead of the charger?

In Europe and other countries the voltages are higher and you'll need an adapter to plug your charger into.
You can usually find them sold at department stores near or in the luggage section.

Handycam not holding charge even with new battery.

Sometimes the batteries will build up a memory if they are only used for short periods of time and never used to the point of going completely dead, so possibly getting a new battery online. B&H photo is a pretty good site.
I know some chargers have an output to the cameras battery connector that powers the camera, and if that is plugged into the charger it will not charge the battery simultaneously.
If the camera is working when plugged into the power source it usually turns out to be a battery problem. Sadly the only choice it to buy a new battery.

Im trying to charge my sony np-bg1 battery with the digipower travel charger. from my understanding, in the user guide it says that when a battery is charging the light will be red. well i have the battery...

I recently purchased the same exact charger for the same exact battery....I had to slide the battery in backwards to align the positive and negative and then it should charge properly. If you slide it in the other way which seems to be the front side of the battery the light will automatically appear green same as if no battery was in the charger. This is because its not aligned to the positive and negative from the battery to the charger. Best Wishes!

How do I charge the battery for a DCR-SR42 camcorder as there does not appear to be a wall-socket cable provided.

Some camcorders have only an external battery charger. You may need to purchase an aftermarket charger for your camera or a dedicated charger from your local Sony dealer.

Charging the handycam

Is the charger plugged into mains? If so, check that all the connectors are firmly attached, if you still have a problem, it may be your AC adaptor.

Draining battery

This camera has had problems with the primary switch block faulting. The camera will power up all by itself when unattended and drain the battery. Another symptom would be the battery refuses to charge fully because the camera must remain in the "OFF" mode for the charge process to begin. Sony in Laredo, TX is replacing these controls at little or no cost, I would call them to see if they will repair this for you. Hope this helps you.
