It is a long time since a washing machine motor had a capacitor. These days a washer motor is a brush type motor that allows semiconductor speed control as determined by the computerised electronic programmer.
The motors are fairly reliable but the brushes do wear out every so often and need replacing. Perhaps that is the problem...

We had similar problem, with the spin cycle not working. We opened the 'drain' pipe (front-right bottom side). It was full of lime scale; never been opened for years. We cleaned it up and the spin cycle is now working.

Possibly a blocked filter or pump.
Ths filter should be at the bottom right front of washer, sometimes behind a removeable cover at the bottom of washer.
To clean it, unscrew anti-clockwise, remove and clean.
