Bear in mind that these coolers can also warm, depending on the orientation of the power cord connection. One end of the power cord has an arrow, the other end has a blue dot on one side and a red dot on the other. For cooling, connect power cord ends so that the arrow is on the same side as the blue dot. If the arrow is on the same site as the red dot, the cooler becomes a warming device, venting cold air outside the cooler and into the car. Could that be the problem?

This sounds like you either need to clean or replace the filter, but if the filter is some what new you might want to take a look at the coils just past the filter, if the coils do not have a shine to them then you might want to buy some coil cleaner (i found simple green or formula 50 works great), then you will have to spray the coils with the cleaner, let sit about 10-15 min, then give it a very good rinse with warm water. After that it should work like it is brand new. Enjoy!
