Craftsman T1000 tractor won't crank

Craftsman T1000 tractor running great. I shut it off; when I went to restart it turned over but wouldn't start. I figured the battery was weak so I put it on the charger. When I went to start it after charging I got nothing but a click. Tried a new battery but still nothing, any thoughts?

Possible one of the kill switches are stuck. Move the levers back and forth. If all else fails, connect 12v to the starter main feed to crank the engine.

SOURCE: craftsman riduing tractor turns over but won't

If you have spark and compression, the only thing left is fuel.

Check that fuel is being deluvered to the carb (remove fuel line to carb and make provision to catch ejected fuel. Crank engine. Fuel should be pumped from the tank and out the open line at a good rate.

If this checks out (or there is no pump fitted, but there is fuel issuing from the pipe), check the electrical connector on the bottom of the carb. There should be battery voltage on this conection for the engine to run - if not - that's the problem.

If that checks out, the cut-off solenoid (fed by the connection you just checked) is suspect.

Some mowers have a mowing reverse safety switch. That safety will kill the mower if you try to reverse with the deck engaged. Some mowers even have an override button that has to be held while backing up. As for the battery thing, no matter how much you charge a bad battery you will not get it to start a mower if it has a bad cell or two. I would use a multimeter to check battery voltage, but the end result would still be the same, replace the battery.

I hope this gets you going again.

SOURCE: hard to start lawn tractor

I have 2009 lawn tractor that will not start (from day 1) unless I use a small squirt
of start fluid into the air cleaner area. Nothing else seems to work. The battery will run down before it starts. Once engine is warm it starts great. Love the tractor,
hate the starting problem. Elevation is not a problem in michigan.

My craftsman 42" lawn tractor won't shut off.

when you turn off the key you are breaking the power circuit to the coil. If it keeps running then the coil is still getting power. Check for a wire touching the power wire before the switch that runs to the coil

It wouldn't start so I replaced the battery. With new battery it still won't start and there is not even a click....nothing. The starter turns though. Is it the wiring or a fuse perhaps?

There are a couple posibilities. One is the safety switches are not all positioned correctly or one has failed. The other is the starting solinoid is bad.

16.5 HP BRIGGS 42' MOWER RAN FOR 1hr. SHUT OFF, WENT TO RESTART, STARTED,30 SECONDS LATER,RAN ROUGH, THEN SHUT OFF. ENGINE CRANKS LIKE NO COMPRESSION, WILL NOT START.

If this is an OHV Intek engine, it needs the valve lash periodically adjusted. If neglected it can result in problems with engine performance and difficulty in starting. It is not real hard to do and there is a lot of info available (videos even) of how to do it. Otherwise, make sure the engine isn't overheating and that all the metal covers and cowlings are in place and that there is no debris build up on the cooling fins of the cylinder(s).

Craftsman 42 inch riding mower. Runs great

how old is your plug? try cleaning and regapping it or replacing it at any rate make sure it is gapped correctly also make sure there is no rust dust or debris is on flywheel or coil also the flywheel keyway does more than hold the flywheel in place it servs as a timing pin and sometimes the slightest wear on it can cause the machine to start hard but otherwise run great good luck hope you find the problem.
