Depending on water condition, the valve core assy can be requiring new O rings. Chlorine will remove conditioning in the o ring and it can harden and shrink . I recommend coating prints and assy with silicone grease. This protection will last a very long time. Also if there are lime deposits on valve, that will require soaking valve core in vinegar to remove crustation. About 2 hours. Brush residue. Or purchase new cores. O rings are a real money saver.

SOURCE: dripping faucet

Take a cloth and lay over the top of the stem so as not to damage it. With pliers, grasp the top of the stem and turn it a quarter turn counter clockwise. The stem should lift right out.

SOURCE: Kohler parts - plumber told

hi, just had a quick look and the part you would have to source would be :78125 spline adapter. this is shown here...... http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/pdf/1146603_2.pdf the taps are washerless ceramic valves and pretty good quality, are they still covered under warranty as i would imagine that part is not cheap.

Shower drips unless forced really hard. this is 1961 vintage kohler shower faucet.

Hello James, You might want to try changing the washer on the end of the stem. Try using a beveled washer instead of a flat washer. You might not have to turn the knob so hard to turn it off. Good luck hope this helps.
