Yellow is likely a battery issue. Low battery voltage or not charging, failed battery, etc.

These units require schedule maintence. Go to

Find model installation operation manual and familiarize yourself with the system or pay the service tech.

SOURCE: 10kw Generac shut down overspeed

Make sure that the throttle linkage is all there and not damaged/misadjusted, then get a manometer and check your inlet gas pressure. Gas pressure should be 8 inches of water column and stay there running or not.

SOURCE: installed a generac 20kw about a year ago, ran

With the engine off, check the exciter brushes and slip rings which supply magnetic power for the alternator winding in the stator. Also, check the motor-to-alternator mechanical coupling. Check the breakers for tripping. To service beyond this point requires a schematic of the alternator, a voltmeter, plus knowledge of what the schematic is telling you. Good luck!

It will turn over once or twice and stops it has a red light on where the braker panel is

press the helpful button and follow me on Fixya for more helpful tips

The current models of automatic standby generators will have LED indicator lights on the side compartment of the generator. A green LED light will indicate that the unit is in AUTO mode and is ready to run, or is running properly during a utility outage. The yellow LED light will indicate that maintenance is needed. The red LED will indicate either that the unit is switched to OFF or that there is an alarm detected. If a yellow or red LED are present, you will need to check the generator's control panel, as it will describe the type of maintenance needed or the alarm present. This information can be found in the owner's manual as well. You can find a copy of the owner's manual online by searching the model or serial number of the unit here

Hello i just started my 8 kw hole house generater ran greatput my electric water heater on 26 amp draw andsmoke came out exhaust vent shut it down ran again great turned only heater on again took amp

8 kW has a 35 amp breaker on the unit. A typical hot water is 4500 watts at 240 volts = 18.75 amps on each leg. If you are measuring 26 on one side and 19 on the other it should be ok. If it is shutting down you may have a fuel problem or you may need to adjust voltage if it's too low. Which model of 8 kW is it?

I have a generac 22kw model QT02224anan that will run for a few minutes then shut down , then the over speed led is lit. It only happens when it is under load or during a power outage. it goes through...

its possible the overspeed is set to sensitive. or your rpm are to high. these are preset in the factory as a safety, check your manual to ensure your rpm speed is in the pre set area. generators will do this under load when you have a big load on them or take a load off. the governor will some times over compensate causing it to trip on overspeed.

Unit shuts down from overspeed fault unit has 35 hours total run time never ran more than 2 hours 45 minutes rest is excerise time . is this problem with the 15 kw common ?

The engine throttle control is out of adjustment. It needs to be set based on the generator frequency
(60 Hz).
