Ryobi 123r, electric, old, bump head knob is worn down and no cover over the square nut inside. I scrubbed away mud/dirt with a toothbrush, and used WD-40, no luck. Will not turn to unscrew and I cant get a grip on it with wrench or pliers. It has worked fine (with no cover), just locked up for some reason..Help!
I would recommend using something a bit more hefty like self adjusting locking pliers or even a plumbers' pipe wrench. If you can get the bump feed to free up, but it's out of trimmer line you may be able to manual spool it. Found a how-to vid on youtube that may be relevant to your model Ryobi trimmer -

These connections usually require a (flare nut) or line wrench to remove it is a 6 point open ended wrench that will not spread under pressure. The grip pliers or vise grips usually will not work because of the soft brass used in the connection so the brake fluid will not corrode it. Good luck!

unthread the nut as far as possible, then tighten it one full turn. Cut off the top with a hacksaw or dremel grinder and re-try. The bolts are cheap. A small jewelers file may help. Look for the damaged thread and remove the burr.

Hi, DO NOT use WD40. Take a small towel or a rubber pad and grasp the lens with the palm of your hand. Turn it counter clockwise to release it.
It is very thick glass so, it should not break.
You might try to tighten it first. Sometimes a little nudge to tighten it will free it up.
I hope this helps you.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: Any tricks to removing the oil plug to change oil?
First try a six point socket on there. Disregard real size...use a socket that is close but seems a bit small, and if you need to tap the socket on with a hammer ((don't beat it to death though). If that fails use a pipe wrench and don't worry about what you do to it. If you have another vehicle, get to a parts store and match the old plug. If not, buy a couple of different ones before you remove it and return the one that did not fit.Don't forget to get a new gasket with the plug.

Is it stripped in the hole? or is just the head is stripped? If it is stripped in the hole then you should put a srewdriver or prybar under and work it out. If just the head is stripped and you can not get it with vise grips then you should take it to a shop where they could weld a good nut onto the head of yours. After it is welded AND cool just undo it with the proper size wrench.
