Stating the obvious this is fuel starvation, so stating the the easiest things first replace the fuel filter in the tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for any signs of leaks, replace if needed, are the hoses to the purge bulb fitted around the correct way as you have replaced it? dirt in the carb itself, this would require stripping the carb and cleaning, at the same time replacing the diaphragms, failing all this you may have an air leak, leaking gaskets, or crank seals.

Sounds like you need to take the carb. apart and clean it. I like to use a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning teeth), to clean the small ports in carb. they work great for this job. Make sure to either clean or replace the small screen in thcarb. as well.

Follow the instructions exactly. If it won't start, take out the spark plug to see if it is wet, or dry. If it is too wet, the motor may be flooded. If it is completely dry, you have to figure out why it's not getting gas. I am assuming you are pressing the bulb the recommended number of times, and that there is gasoline in the bulb, providing some resistance to your pushes with your thumb.

SOURCE: Have changed plug and gas. hard to start but will

I would suggest cleaning the carb (remove it) and air filter. There are a few really small passages in the carb that need to be cleaned which get gummed up due to the 2 stroke mixture and sitting for the winter. (Even if you drained the fuel)

DO NOT use a piece of wire or anything to clean out any small passages. Use carb cleaner and compressed air, put it back on, and see if it's better.

If that doesn't do it, a carb rebuild is in order. Not very many parts on those little buggers. If the cleaning doesn't solve it, it's most likely a bad diaphram from sitting and drying out. (Which I'm learning towards due to the lack of pressure when you prime and having it starve for fuel and die after a minute of running). There is a square plate on the bottom of the carb held on by 3 or 4 screws. That's the cover for the diaphram. Remove the screws and plate and look at the diaphram to see if it has a hairline crack, if it's sticking (there's a spring under it), or if any thing else looks out of whack.

I have a Ryobi S430 4 stroke Weed Eater Trimmer. How many times do i pump the choke (primer) to start cold?

chokes are an obstruction placed over the inlet to increase the vacuum in the carby and cannot be pressed
Primer bulbs are used to suck fuel through the diaphragms to expell all of the air in the system to allow starting
normally press the primer bulb until it is full of fuel
apply the choke and pull until it fires
remove the choke and at full throttle pull until it starts

How to adjust carburetor

no adjustments possible, use fresh gas/oil mix 40:1. Check carb primer bulb for cracks and fuel lines. Excess air can cause high rev and surging.

Primer bulb will not prime

Hello Tony Galvan, I had to replace the fuel lines to keep from sucking air when I pressed on the primer bulb. Also, I took the carburetor apart and found the gasket was good by holding it up to the sunlight, no light came through indicating holes in the gasket. Then I took a magnifying glass and looked at the bottom half of the carburetor and noticed that a soft film of what looks like lint from a dryer had accumulated on a screen mesh type of filter. Once I cleaned the debris away, the weed wacker started every time. I pulled with a full choke and partially wants to start. Then moved the choke to half choke and pressed on the throttle fully and pulled, it started! But you must at least hold the throttle close to full until 10 seconds for the engine to warm up. Then move the choke to idle. Hope this helps.

What is the problem when my 27cc craftsman weed wacker starts but doesnt stay running

check age of gas. Cannot be more than 30 days old.
Make sure to use fresh gas w/synthetic 2-cycle oil @ 40:1 ratio (1 gal.) Gas to 3.2 oz. Oil). Do not use old or stale oil/gas mixture. Always use the proper oil/gas mix. If you do not, your engine will suffer rapid, permanent damage.May need to clean or replace carburetor.

Craftsman weed wacker will start and run

Are you sure you have the right fuel mixture? Many of these require 2 Cycle oil to be added to the gas. If fuel is right, you may have a vacuum leak at the carb (or crack in base where it mounts to the engine). My weedwacker needed to be run on half choke for about 10 min before it got hot enough to run with choke off.

Look on the carb for 2 screws side by side. where those screws go into the carb, it will be stamped with an "H" and "L". Open the screw that is next to the "H", counterclockwise about 1/4 turn at a time with the engine running, that should solve it.

Sounds like you need a new spark plug and probably a new gas filter. To start the weed eater it is recommended to pump the primer bulb seven times and the choke full down. You can get the fuel filter out of the tank with a hooked wire. Good luck.

These 4 cycle trimmers need to be primed 10x before a cold start. The bulb will feel *firmer* on the last two or three depressions and you'll know that the carb is primed.

Full choke and and full throttle on first tug should see it hit once with a puff of smoke. Second start attempt should be in choke position two (half choke) and with full pressure on the throttle. Should rev to life on start attempt. Let the engine IDLE for 30 seconds, moving the choke to off at the end of the waiting period. Let engine idle to warm another full minute with no choke, then set to work!
