Did you check the small screens at the water hose hook-up valve? sometimes those get clogged up.
It sounds like a water flow issue..or lack thereof.
"Check the tap" means difficulty with inlet water.
Before anything I suggest to clean the water inlet filters as described in the user manual.
otherwise could be:
Tap closed or water pressure too low; drain pipe improperly
positioned; water fill solenoid valve faulty; leaks from water circuit on
pressure switch; pressure switch faulty; wiring faulty; main PCB
faulty.

check no kink in drain hose and if plumbed in unbder sink, check spigot into sink drain is not blocked. put drain hose lower down band check there is water coming out freely. if not, then suspect something trapped in hose from tub to pump
SOURCE: Miele G575 slow and insufficient water fill
The unit has a double valve system, the waterproof, it could be that one of the valves is not opening fully. They can break down over time. This would mean you need a new one. This should fix the problem.
Open the door once the wash has started and check the water level. It could be that it is siphoning out half way through the wash. Make sure your drain hose is secured up properly.
If when you open the wash and there is not enough water, it is most likely the waterproof, as I stated before.
cheers.

SOURCE: Washer keeps displaying '4E' Lack of water error
If you have pulled out and cleaned the filter at the back of the machine where the hose connects then I would check that your pump is not running during the cycle and also make sure your drain line is at least half way above your drum at its highest point, If its too low then it will drain off even if the pump is not running.

Wonderful!! Would you mind giving me a "problem solved" rating -- there should be icons on the screen to do that.
thanks...

When error message 4E is displayed, you should clean the water hose mesh filter. To do this:
1. Turn off the water source to the washing machine.
2. Unscrew the hose from the back of the washing machine.
3. With a pair of pliers, gently pull out the mesh filter from the end of the hose and rinse it under water until clean. Also clean the inside and outside of the threaded connector.
4. Push the filter back into place.
5. Screw the hose back onto the washing machine.
6. Turn on the faucet and make sure the connections are watertight.
Also, please check the following:
• Make sure the source water faucet is turned on.
• Check the water pressure.
