On the Zanussi zsf6161 no red lights appear when machine is turned on and error 50 appears only seconds after starting any programme

Check float valve. It is probably stuck. This tells yuor machine to pump the water out and keeps the water valve from opening. Often it is something small that was placed in the dishwasher and lodges under the float telling machine that it is full of water when it is not. The float is somewhere on the bottom inside the machine typically. Make sure it moves freely.

The error message "Err" usually indicates that the wash program and option are not compatible. 40 degrees and 900 rpm Spin should be o.k.. I would try another wash program with no special options and see if the problem goes away.

SOURCE: My belling dishwasher wont start, the lights are on but when I press programme the red light no longer skips along the options , it simply doesnt appear.

I had the same problem today - machine is two years old - cannot select a program - door does not close properly - the machine should bleep at you when the door opens or closes.
Problem is the catch - its has a powerful spring on the catch which in time distorts the two plastic bearings each side of the catch which then stops the door open switch working.
The fix is simple - new catch mechanism available from :-
