Well, some say .012", ... but really .... Just use a thin piece of cardboard or paperboard about the thickness of a matchbook cover and you'll be all set.

gap from coil to flywheel is .010. if you've replaced coil, points and condenser with no spark i would try replacing the coil and points with an magnetron kit or a coil that allows for the elimination of points.

That's easy man! You will always hear, "You sir, need to gap this or that at EXACTLY .00071542 inches per square meter".

The actual "poor boy fix"-

Put your magneto back on there, and stick a business card from your wallet in between it and the rotor. Let the magneto pull itself to it, you center it, and give it just a hair of breathing room (to slide the card back out). Tighten 'er down, and you got it.

1.- If you can't pull the card out, it is too tight.

2.- If you pull the card out easily, too loose.

3.- JUST enough to pull it out, and have it drag just a bit on the way out is JUST ENOUGH!

Remember, on 4-strokes, they ARE forgiving, and can do miracles even if you try your best to destroy them.

What should the spark plug gap for magneto be on an autolite 216

I see anywhere from .030" (.76mm) - .035".. the smaller gap will be easier for the magneto to fire...and probably run better at low speeds..

What is the correct gap between the magneto core and magnet?

The gap is .010. You can also use a card to gap the coil and after you tighten the coil and remove the card turn the flywheel by hand one revolution to make sure the magnet does not rub on the flywheel.

What is the magneto gap for a 6HP Briggs & Stratton 12H802 series engine?

Briggs lists it as .006 - .010 on this 6 HP L-head engine. The .010 width can easily be attained by using a standard sized business card as a feeler gauge (and it doesn't stick to the magnets in the flywheel). I double up the card, loosen the coil and let the magnets in the flywheel draw the pickup legs in until they press on the card, tighten up the retaining screws (threadlocker is optional) and your air gap is set.
