Bonjour Excuse my english; french is my first language. I have the BC-1605C model; on the top there are 3 buttons; cancel button is somewhere else (at the bottom on the front of the toaster) 1= reheat (the waves on the bottom of the piece of bread)your no 3? 2= defrost (snowflake)your no 2? 3= bagel Hope this will help you

I would say yes. The elements probably are overheated and broke. Unless your talking a high dollar toaster, a new one would be the best course. Of course paid for by the for-mentioned teenager.
