Is your PC 2 years old or 20 ?
dell reUsed the model names, (sad no?)
the service tag information is 10x more better, post that. ok?
the screen is 100% black , never shows text at all??
fan is dead.? (power on and listen close)
remove the large battery pack, run on AC pack only.
runs now? bingo.
fans still dead. do the long reset here.
Dell 15 3000 2016
or the
Inspiron 15 3000? (1998)
I guess is 2 years old max (2016 shows in the guide at dell.com)
not the Dell 3000 from 1998?
3000 series, try tell the full model number and not just the series #
ok? be exact. on model, ok?
if the fan is dead inside say so and first.
that means there is no power to the PC (inside)
the fan must blow air. and speed up if too hot (inside)
if the fan does work.
and battery big out and AC pack good
you can connect the HDMI jack here to the TV and see if you get text or other errors are windows logon screens.
left side HDMI and matching cable. 2016 and newer 3000
if your PC is 1998 (there is VGA JACK TO USE)
the battery large is no good, and shorted out and must be removed.
the tiny RTC coin cell this old is 100% hopeless, this old.
replace this next.
the test the HDD using a linux boot CD.
test the Laptop with Lunux demo CD. see if the PC is ok
then reload what ever OS you like, (ask)

At the left of your power button, past the word PRECISION, there is a slot for a screwdriver. With the screen fully open, use that slot to remove the power and volume buttons. At the other end of the stip you removed will be the connector that connects the buttons to the motherboard. Reconnect it better.

Press and hold the Power button for 45 seconds to turn the laptop off.
Then, remove the battery from the battery compartment and clean the metal contacts.
Next, reinsert the Battery and try to turn it ON.
If the display still doesn't come then you may try connecting an external display to check if the Computer is able to produce display and the issue is with the backlight of the LCD screen.
wish u good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
Testimonial: "Thanks pressing power button in for a while worked."

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.
check the florecent lamp which is found at the bottom of the lcd screen, and try to replace it.
