On my Epic you can adjust the belt tension by using an allen wrench in the holes on the end of rails. Tighten 1/4 turn on each side and see how the tension is. Repeat another 1/4 turn if necessary.
These treadmills have what is called a thermal switch. It is designed to shut the machine off if it gets too hot. To help this problem you can purchase some treadmill lubrication. It is a waxy based substance that you put on the underside of the walking belt. That is the most inexpensive alternative. You may need to purchase a new walking belt. How you can tell if yours needs to be replaced is to put your hand on the underside of the walking belt. You should feel a texture like a screen door if it is in good condition. When you pull your hand out it should feel like you have been eating popcorn, a little greasy. This will prevent the overheating problem and not shut your machine off in the middle of workouts.
