SOURCE: Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, freezer doesn't work, refrigerator works

Unless specifically made for use in a garage most units won't work properly. The owners manual should say what the temp range for proper operation is (usually 55F is the low range). This is because the refrigerator section doesn't need to be "cooling" to maintain 37F if the temps on the outside are below 55F. These things are made to work in a 70F room and will not work properly if under 55F. Stupid thing thinks it's cold enough so it will never turn on, the refer section will stay cold/cool due to outside temps but since the compressor never runs the freezer will just be the same temp as the refer section (at best). Sorry, but in order for a freezer or refrigerator to work in an unheated space it must have the temp control device controling the freezer section NOT the fresh food section. In other words, that model will not work in a garage unless the temps are above 55F always.

SOURCE: Kenmore side by side is not getting cold or freezing

If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running.
First, answer these questions:
Is the refrigerator completely dead?
If so, see “It's stopped completely.”

The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.

If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:
The compressor
The Thermostat
The overload, relay, or capacitor
The defrost timer
The condenser fan motor

The freezer and the fridge are cooled by the same system, air is moved to the fridge by a fan from the freezer, either the circulation fan is defective or the fridge thermostat is defective.

SOURCE: Water collects and freezes in bottom of Kenmore

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking down the vent instead of the drain hole...If you need any further assistance please feel free to comment again. good luck! P.s Please don't forget to rate my solution thanks!

the fan may have stop check for air flow coming out of the vents inside the refrigerator otherwise the evaporator may be frozen with solid ice and no air flow to cool.

Kenmore model 596 72913200 freezer works but fridge not getting cold

This will be an air flow problem from the damper failing. Usually what happens is, the air vent is not allowing air to pass at the damper due to the motor not opening and allowing the cold air to pass into the refrigerator side. A good way to check it is, to feel the amount of air coming out of the vent between the freezer and the refrigerator. If the air flow seems slow, or no air at all, replace the damper to restore air flow to the refrigerator. Here is the part you need to order.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

My refrigerator produce drawers are freezing all of my produce. I have adjusted to low to high humidity on the drawers and it doesn't make a difference. What is wrong?

Make sure the fan in the freezer is running to circulate the air through the fridge. The cold air will settle to the bottom if it's not. Make sure the vents from the freezer to the fridge are open. There's one at the top and bottom.
Make sure the dampers to the vents open and close when you adjust the temp.

Freezers side is working but not the refrigetator.

How old is your appliance?

Some refrigerators had this issue and a new design fixed this issue. If it still under warranty, contact Kenmore and request warranty repair. A temporary "solution" is to adjust your refrigerator temperature and avoid the freezing on the vent.

You may try to unfreeze the vent with your hair dryer. Just set it as warm.

Freezer is working fine, but frig is warm,

Look for the return vent near the bottom probably behind the crisper. You'll have to remove it to see the vent. There may be an adjustable flap in to to adjust the meat keeper area. Make sure it's open.

All food on top shelf of refrigeratr is freezing

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

Items in the back of the refrigerator freeze.

is this something that has just started happening? Most kenmore top freezers have a vent that allows cold air from the freezer into the refrig through a vent located on the back wall in the center of the refrig section. if packages are pushed up under this vent they can freeze.

If you have widespread freezing in the refrig setion then a temperature control could be the fault. thanks for using fixya. Peyton..

The refrigerator is not getting any air - there is no air blowing from the vents. The freezer seems to be fine, it is cold. the unit is about 13 years old. Is there any filters or coils to clean in the...

through other postings on your web site i was able to determine that the return air flow vents had frosted over (closed). I defrosted the unit and it appears to be working fine now.

The air that cools the refrigerator section comes from the freezer. The refrigerator temperature control controls the run cycle. You may have to replace or have the thermostat replaced. The temperature control has failed.
