The converter is USB powered, so there's no external power adapter to carry around, making this laptop to TV connection entirely portable. you will need a seperate audio cable unless you are going to use your laptop's speakers
See manual attached. The connection is not by serial but by separate RGB video and audio cables. https://panasonic.ca/PCS/OperatingInstructions/TH42PWD5UY-OI-Eng.pdf
SOURCE: I want to use plasma tv as external monitor
Your laptop is not set to enable the external video output.
Most likely, your laptop has a key that says "RGB/LCD" or something similar on it. This key cycles through the various video output options, enabling the laptop's LCD, the external RGB output, or both simultaneously. Most laptops require you to hold down the function key ("FN") when pressing the "RGB/LCD" key to cycle through the options.
SOURCE: Dell Monitor Not Working
well if the status of the LEd on the monitor is amber(orange) & the system is running on a on board video card & not a Add-on video card... it is a possibility the the integrated video card ot the mother board might have gone bad... either contact a local tech or the tech support for the computer...
also unplug the monitor cable from the system tower & then if you see that there are the bars moving which say monitor self test on... means tht the problem is with the video card or the mother board...
since the system is running on a integrated video card...
SOURCE: I got this dell inspiron 531 were do you plug your printer into?
If you have a PARALLEL cabled printer, You need the same sized port on your PC.
Most newer PCs no longer have serial ports, as they are antiquated and slow method of communication.
There are adapters however, if you have a smaller SERIAL port.
And ones that are USB - or a combo one like the following....
The Inspiron 531 Does not appear to have the PARALLEL port you require.
My 812c (older) has a parallel cable and usb cable. Look for the Mini USB on the back of the printer, and all you would need is a cable like this - TYPE A to TYPE B
Good Luck!
SOURCE: CHECK SIGNAL CABLE
Typically this happens when the resolution of the display is out of range of the monitor. Normally this is when the resolution is too high. Have you changed the resolution settings? Also, not to be crass, but if there a video card in the system, be sure that you are connected to the correct VGA connector. With an extra card in the system, the onboard VGA connector is not used.
Keep us posted,
Dan

check this out http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/762913.html *A VGA connector and cable are used to carry analog video signals plus display and graphics data. The VGA is a 15-pin connector commonly found on laptops and other devices. With this port you need a PC-to-TV Convertor to connect laptop to TV. You simply plug the VGA cable from the source into the convertor, and use an S-Video or RCA cable out to the TV. The converter is USB powered, so there’s no external power adapter to carry around, making this laptop to TV connection entirely portable. you will need a seperate audio cable unless you are going to use your laptop's speakers
