Mower starts, dies quickly. Replaced needle and seat. can you help ? has 43 lbs compression
Did you clean the carb's small orifices when you installed the needle/seat ?
Sounds like it's getting no fuel.
Try spraying a flammable carb cleaner into the carb after removing the air filter. If it will run as long as you spray the cleaner, it's something in the carb.
Your 43psi compression could be your compression release for easy starting of the engine. It kicks out when the rpm goes up and gives full compression.
Since it does run, just not very long, I think your issue is just gas delivery to the engine i.e. something is plugged up in the carb.

I know this may sound stupid but I've don it my self is the gas on? If it is then my next ? is, does the nut on the bottom of the bowl have an adjustment screw in it? If it does see if it is turned in all the way, if it's turned in than from just bottom out turn it out 1 1/4 turns out that is the fuel flow needle once running that needle may need to be fine tuned, also if it is turned out to far it wont run either cause it will flood out. If that doesn't work it might be something internal with the carb.let me know how you make out and if we need to check into it further.

It may think you are in reverse and is killing the motor to keep you from backing up with the blade running. Look for switch that is telling it when you are in reverse, maybe it is stuck with grass or other debris. another possibility is that the blades are jammed and they are stalliing the motor. Mines stalls easily when cold.

I have a similar issue in that my Craftsman 650 in that it sputters and smokes out of the muffler and spits oil out from there as well. It does not die, but I cannot operate the lawn mower with all the smoke and oil blowing out. Plus, I get oil leakage on the deck of the lawn mower (top). What would I check for here?

cut the wires running to the switch...try again...if same, stripp back wires, and twist together...wrap in tape or use some sort of connector...it's electric and should be treated as such...try again...still ?? Start finding those switches and repeat the process til it works...theres usually 3 or 4...
