When it comes to carb adjustmant,my recomandation is for you to seek a professional to do it for you. You can fight with it for a while and not get it,small engine mechanics that do it all the time could have your problem fixed rather quickly and wouldnt charge you much, but thats up to you.

SOURCE: john deer bh25 leaf blower won,t stay operational

Its probably a clogged spark arrestor on the muffler. John Deere reccomends cleaning or replacing after 25 to 50 hours.

SOURCE: problem with John Deere L120 tractor

Park brake switch is the most likely culprit, any other would cause the tractor to not turn over in the crank position.

John Deere 697203 carburetor on a John Deere riding Mower 19.5hp engine. How to hook up the linkage for it

Question edited for clarity maker name in full.
Question moved from Hewlett Packard.

Diagrams and videos. It would have been useful to have the model number of the mower. My normal search query would be
'John Deere model replace (or service) carburetor'. Plus perhaps adding the work 'linkage' or 'choke'. All this information is out there as well as John Deere Service Manuals.

Mine run like that right from the factory so I just left mine on half choke. The store told me it has something to do with the settings at the factory. It was set to run in a certain country with the air pressure. They told me to run it on half choke. all the time.

2007 riding mower John Deere backfires while trying to start will not start

Inspect/replace the air filter to ensure proper air flow.
Inspect/replace the sparkplug(s) to ensure proper firing.
Check the position of the "choke" (if equipped; & by the way, most riding lawn mowers do not use a primer bulb button to prime the engine before starting).

Engine surges won't run with out choke and then it stalls

If the engine surges and won't run without choke it is starving for fuel. Best place to start is the fuel filter. After the fuel filter, pull the fuel line off of the carburetor and place a container under the fuel line to catch the fuel. Crank the engine over and watch for the amount of fuel being pumped through the line. There should be a good stream of fuel with each pulse from the pump. Chances are the pump diaphragm is getting weak and it cannot keep enough fuel in the carb to run proper. Check those items and let me know if it helps, Daniel.

I am not familiar with this particular model but from the smell of raw gas I check the air filter and choke first to see that you are not flooding it. You could also take out the spark plug to see whether it is wet with gas.
