SOURCE: amana side by side ice maker will not fill with water

Old message, I'm sure you have solved your problem by now, but . . .
IF
Amana/Whirlpool conforms to wiring standards (no guarantees), the main AC wires should be white=neutral, black=hot, red=switched line.  Of course, they already depart with the use of the brown wire.
You should be able to access the 'full' switch at the ice maker itself and as you have found, it will turn on (or off) the fill solenoid.
It would be kind to post back what you found as it might benefit others in the future.
Thanks-

Adjusting Ice Maker Fill

Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the screws on the ice maker's front access panel, and then remove the panel.

  • Locate the adjustment screw, located about mid-point on the side of the ice maker. Do not turn the crew more than one full turn in either direction.
  • Turn the screw clockwise ½ turn to decrease the water fill level.
  • Turn the screw counterclockwise ½ turn to increase the water fill level.
  • Close the access panel and restore the screws. Turn the refrigerator back on.

The ice maker on my Amana side-by-side isn't working right. Too much water. I have replaced the valve twice and it works ok for a little while. What else could be wrong?

Take a look at this web link:

    http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

About 1/3 of the way down the page there is this statement with picture:
    FILL ADJUSTMENT SCREW
1 full turn will affect fill by 40cc. 1/2 turn varies the fill by 20cc.Some Ice Makers May have knobTurning the knob or screw clockwise decreases fill; counter-clockwise increases the fill amount.Turing Adjustment Screw More than 1 full turn could damage module.

If you have 2 times replaced the water valve and you still tend to think the water valve is the problem again it may be time to use an IN-LINE water filter as you just may be getting particulate introduced into the ice maker water valve from the house connection. Particulate in the ice maker water valve seat causes them to bypass water when they are not supposed to.

I tend to think your in the right track and thinking the problem just may not be the water valve.

Use the link to troubleshoot. Just remember though that each time you cycle the ice maker using the jumper as instructed it will fill with water.

What I would to is pull the plastic hose in the back and cycle the icemaker BEFORE you make any adjustments catching the fill water in a measuring cup behind the unit. Note volume...

Make adjustment... Note volume difference. You should not have to make much more than a 20cc adjustment.

    Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a side by side that has the ice maker in the door, when it makes ice cubes, they come out all connected and this makes it difficult to get ice to despense from the shoot and most of the time it will...

It sounds like you have too large a fill of water in the ice maker. If you remove the ice maker there is a fill adjustment screw under the cover of the ice maker.( the only way to get the cover off is to remove the ice maker)
Very small plastic screw head of about 1/8 inch or less. Ice maker controls water valve by time fill. Believe there is one turn adjustment total available. You might want to put a small hole in the cover before you reinstall it to adjust screw the next time without removing ice maker, believe it will be side facing out. Lastly I think you turn adjustment screw in to decrease and out to increase time of fill.
Suggest leaving a towel on the floor for awhile until you have solved problem.
Next thing to try would be a different ice maker, or if normal sized ice is melting and refreezing in the bin, you have a cooling or thermostat problem .

    Good luck

    Ice maker is over filling

    Hi there,

Ice maker has adjustment on right side of power head. If ice maker is inside on upper left, you can remove white cover from it and the adjusting screw in on right. Turning counter-clockwise will decrease fill by 1/2 to 3/4 of ounce. Sounds like a small amount, but ice make only uses 4 ounces per fill. If this does not fix, try replacing fill valve. If ice maker ice bin is in the freezer door, you have to remove cover to ice maker in the top of freezer. Ice maker is screwed into top of freezer and need to be removed to take off cover to adjuster screw. same procedure for reducing water flow time as above.

    Thanks

Have Amana side-by-side about 14 yrs old. The icemaker overfills ice tray by about 8oz of water? Please help!

Unless someone has made a water level adjustment there is,
Only one repair. Replace the ice maker.
If someone has made a water level adjustment you can try this.
Remove the ice maker plastic cover. Locate the water level screw adjust it to a minimum setting and try it there.
If that does not correct the problem, replace the ice maker.

    Icemaker

There is a water fill adjustment on your ice maker the normal fill time is 7.5 seconds...

the adjustment screw is on the side and in the middle of the head..
•Turning the water level adjustment screw
will move the contact in its relationship with
the contact ring segment. This causes the
contact to vary the time that the water valve
is energized since the contact ring is tapered
at the end of the fill time.
•Turning the knob or screw clockwise
    decreases fill - counterclockwise increases
    the fill amount.
    • Only one revolution is possible with the
cover on, due to a stop molded on cover
    360o will affect fill by 40cc - 180o varies
    the fill by 20cc.

•if you need more adjustmnet remove cover

    • Further adjustment could damage
    module.

Hope it help please let me know if it does...

Water runs out of the water in the door when the ice maker fills

It is possible that your icemaker tray is overfilling and the excess water is running out of the ice chute. There is an adjustment screw on the icemaker head beneath the large white cover which can be adjusted to compensate for this. If not then the icemaker head may need to be changed to correct this.
