I have an akai that goes from red to green for about 3-5 seconds, then back to red. this is the akai 3201 lcd. I have tried unplugging and this worked a few times now all I get when I unplug and try to turn on is a dull blue screen no sound.

Same problem. Turns green for a few seconds then red and nothing. Also, I have a DVD stuck and it won't eject without power. Anyone know how to eject it?

  • Fairlie Apr 29, 2008

Same problem as everybody else. TV tries to come on and won't. It came on for awhile after many tries and then unplugging and trying again. Now it won't come on at all. Radio Shack service didn't call back with a solution after over 48 working hours. I called them again and they said no one in my area repairs Akai so factory would replace or refund. I received a call from 3rd party company today who is researching for someone to repair. I was told to expect reply withing 72 working hours. I bought a 3 year service contract when I bought the TV. It is April 28th and my first call to Radio Shack Service was at 10:00 a.m. on April 17th.

I fixed my Akai LCT3201AD in about 30mins. using 3 small parts from Radio Shack. Once I got the back off, I found the power supply board (PSB), mine was part# MLT-169B rev1.2. I looked at the capacitors (caps.) first, because they are usually easy to diagnose. I noticed the caps. bubbled out on the top of the board (where all the cables connect to it). There is 3 of them in a row, positioned between the two large heatsinks. My guess is that the heatsinks are generating a LOT of heat over time, because of bad ventilation, and causing the caps. to fail.
I went to Radio Shack and found 3 caps. (only had 3 in stock). The original ones were 16V-1000uF, Radio Shack only carried 35V and 50V in the 1000uF caps., so I bought the 35V ones and headed home, I removed the old caps. from the board, and installed the new ones. The 35V caps, are a little bigger, so its a tighter fit on the board, be careful. It took longer to remove the back from the TV than it did to do the soldering. YouTube.com has excellent videos on how to de-solder caps. on PSB's.

Total money spent on repairs:
$1.59 ea for 3 Caps. (part# 272-1032) $4.77
$2.99 for new soldering iron tip + $2.99
$1.00 donation for St. Jude's + $1.00
Total including tax $9.30

So for less than $10, I did a repair that my local TV repair shop wanted $575 for. Online stores want anywhere from $100-$275 for a PSB. If I get another 2 yrs out of it that's well worth $10.

Thank you so much, your description fits my tv exactly. It's been broken for over a year. May God richly bless you.

If they're repairing it under warranty have them send you a box..
There is NO substitute for their repair policy - ie: you can't just take it into a local shop and have them do it, the shop will never get paid and most know that...

No Picture & No sound. Red LED, Green LED, Red LED.

If the power supply outputs are good! Then I would say the back light inverter is bad! If the screen stays black and does not come on.
