The LightScribe feature of DVD burners with this capability requires that you are using burner software that has this function. Verify that the software you are using is lightscribe compatible. The software that comes with this drive(Nero) should be lightscribe compatible. After you burn the disc you do need to fip the disc over and the re-insert into the drive so that a label can be etched into the disc. The lightscribe discs look identical on both sides so only one side you can burn info and the other side is for the label so make sure that it is inserted on the right side for each process. If you put the disc in on the wrong side the initial data burn will not work. Also sometimes burners will have issues with certain brands of discs so you may also want to try a different brand and see if that helps. And another thing that you can try is updating the drive to the latest firmware. The firmware is to the drive kind of like what Windows is to your PC. Sometimes updating this file will fix problems like this. Here is a link to the firmware of your model. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
You can download the file and run it to update your firmware. Caution: Before running the firmware make sure it is the correct file for your drive! There are a couple of variations to your model number and this one might not be the correct one. If you install the wrong file you could damage your drive inoperable or defeat some of it's features. I hope this information is of help with your problem and thanks for using FixYa.
You need special absorbent coating on the printable DVD's if they are suitable for that. Are you sure you can print on the sort you have usually they are all white. It also must actually say suitable for PC printed labels etc too.
you need to launch the lightscribe software, insert the disk upside down (opposite to what we use when burning data into disk), select the image in the software and start burning.

There should be a lightscribe program that came with the DVD drive. just flip the DVD over (make sure it can do lightscribe) and run the program that came with it and choose an image and burn it.
You can get colored blank discs, but the Lightscribe only "prints" in shades of black. You will need to get Lightscribe compatible discs, which are just like "normal" cd's / dvd's with the exception of having a special coating on the one side.
You can visit Lightscribe's website for complete tutorials.
