Amana BR22VL completely off, fan and compressor will not come on.

Fan and compressor do not turn on. Coils were clogged with dust, cleaned them as good as possible, still lots of dust trapped between the upper and lower coils. I assume it overheated and shut down. Is there a reset or fuse?

SOURCE: fridge not cooling

Most of the time on a whirlpool the problem is the relay on the compressor sometimes called the start device. I would replace that first. If you need help finding the part let me know. I will need the complete model # from the sticker inside the fridge section. You can look it up with diagrams at http://www3.sears.com/.

Thermostat or the temperature control module are not working properly. Also make sure that your fan blades are not broken or warped as this will cause you a problem. Also if the coils have or do get iced up then it will be a low coolant problem. But this is a thermostat or temp control problem

Afd2535des not cooling in any department, when I opened the doors, the lights work and the led temp control lights up. I hear a fan start and 5 seconds later the fan stops n leds shut off.

  1. Check the thermostat: Make sure the thermostat is set to a temperature that is low enough to cool the refrigerator. If the thermostat is not working properly, it may need to be replaced.
  2. Check the condenser coils: The condenser coils on the back of the refrigerator should be clean and free of dust and debris. If the coils are dirty, the refrigerator will not be able to cool properly. Use a vacuum cleaner or a brush to clean the coils.
  3. Check the fan motor: If the fan motor is not running, the refrigerator will not be able to cool properly. Check if the fan motor is receiving power and if it's spinning freely. If the fan motor is faulty, it will need to be replaced.
  4. Check the start relay: The start relay helps the compressor start up. If the start relay is faulty, the compressor may not start and the refrigerator will not be able to cool properly. If the start relay is faulty, it will need to be replaced.
  5. Check the compressor: If the compressor is not working, the refrigerator will not be able to cool properly. Check if the compressor is receiving power and if it's running. If the compressor is faulty, it will need to be replaced.

Freezer only gets down to around 18 degrees but fridge is fine. No frost on the freezer evaporator fan is running

Modern consumer refrigerators only have coils in the freezer. In the lower back of the freezer there is a small fan and possible a damper (flap that opens/closes) to push cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator. Given that the freezer is 18 deg, it's probably cold enough to keep the fridge area at typically 34 deg.
So the cooling system (compressor, coils, thermostat) are not working properly to keep the freezer at, typically 0 deg. Possible causes: partial loss of refrigerant gas, icing around evaporator coils (in freezer), compressor failing, dust clogging condenser coils (under fridge), condenser fan clogged or broken (under fridge), thermostat failure.
I'd start with condenser. Remove the slotted trim at the bottom front and look in with a flashlight. Are the coils clean? Pull out the fridge and remove the lower back cover (usually cardboard). You can now see the coils and fan. Clean and blow them out.
If it's icing, it probably means freezer door not closing tight. If auto-defrost not working properly it would probably get worse over the period of a few days so not likely.

Is the coil fan suppose to run at all times ?

Condenser Fan runs as long as the compressor runs, which is always when there is a call for cooling.
pay attention to this fan, you will often loos the condenser fan after cleaning due to fine dust getting into the motor and drying the bushing.

Refrigerator not cooling properly

There are several things that can cause cooling problem with your refridgerator. The first and most common is dirt dust and lint clogging the condenser coils. These coils are usually located underneath the refridgerator and have a small fan that blows air across them. If they are clogged, the refridgerator cannot get rid of the heat to allow it to cool properly. To check and clean these coils you must first pull out the refridgerator and unplug it. Remove the lower panel ( usually made of a cardboard material) this will give you access to the compressor and fan and coils. Check the coils for dust, dirt and lint. Clean out carefully with a vacuum cleaner or brush( you can get a brush specially made for this ) check the fan motor to see if it spins freely( some units may not have a fan) plug unit in to see if fan runs (make sure to temporarily turn thermostat down colder to turn on compressor and fan). If fan does not come on with compressor you may need to replace it. Put unit back in place and see if that solves the problem. If this does not help, you will probably have to have a appliance repairman check out unit.Hope this helps.

Fan running but not cooling

If you've already cleaned the condenser coils it's either a refrigerant leak or a bad compressor, either way you need a certified technician to look at it.

You say clean outside coils and fan motor coils. Where are they?

The "outside" coils that you are looking for on a refrigerator will be found either on the back, or in the case of your Amana, on the bottom - behind the toe space bezel. There are no coils on the back of the fridge.

The coils are usually thin, black grates that contain the refrigerant. Be careful not to damage them when cleaning. Open the freezer door (yours is a bottom freezer type) and simply grasp at the top of the bezel an gently pull away from the frame.

Use a narrow crevice vacuum tool attachment to pull the dust and debris from the coils. Use a flashlight to see beyond the very front. You may also wish to unplug the fridge so that you do not damage the fan if it is struck by the tool while running. You should vac the coils annually or more frequently if the fridge is in a dusty area - or there is a lot of pet hair collecting on the coils. Some fridges also have the fan hidden behind a removable panel on the at the bottom of the back side of the fridge. If cleaning fan blades - you must unplug the fridge before attempting. Vacuum any dirt and dust on visible coils seen near the fan.

Good luck!

I can hear the motor running and the lights are on. But the refrigerator is warm and the freezer has thawed everything.

By motor, I assume you are referring to the compressor underneath the refrigerator. Close by the compressor toward the rear of the refrigerator, there should be a compressor fan. This should be turning. If it's not, the refrigerant coils will not be cooled adequately. This results in inadequate cooling inside the unit. Check also to make sure the coils are not covered with dirt and grime. If they are, clean them.

If the compressor fan is not turning, you will need to replace the fan motor.

The bottom freezer on my Maytag BR22 is not

Look at the inside back wall of the freezer, If you see that it is built up with frost. You have a defrost problem. If not, check the coils under the bottom, make sure they are clean and not covered with dust. If so clean with vacuum and long brush. If they are clean, check the fan that blows on the compressor. Make sure it's running. If not you have a bad fan. Last be sure the fan inside the fridge is running.
