Have replaced the 3part inlet water valve for our fridge freezer. Water is working fine, but still not making ice.

The old water valve was leaking, where the tube for the ice maker was. Took the new valve back, and tested fine. Put it back on, still not working. Have put water down through the tube. Goes through fine. Could it be an electrical problem. model is westinghouse RS643V

Check the ice bin level arm (also the ice maker on/off switch) is in the down position. It senses when the ice bin is full and turns off the ice maker until some ice in the bin gets used. It can also be lifted into the up position to turn the ice maker off.

SOURCE: Ice maker not working

It's possible that the tube that supplies water to the ice maker is blocked with ice (freezer temp. too cold) and not allowing water to get to the Ice tray.
You can squeeze the tube to see if it's iced, and if so you can melt the ice with a blow dryer and adjust your freezer temp. to the manufacturer's suggested setting and work from there.
I have seen this happen, but there are other problems such as just a broken ice maker too.
Good luck.

SOURCE: Ice maker won't make ice

It sounds like the fill tube coming through the freezer wall is frozen shut. Need to carefully take a hair dryer to it then recheck with wire swap. If you turn i/m off for a couple hours then back on you should be able to watch the fingers go around. If so you module should be good.

SOURCE: Water tube extension

it sounds like the water inlet valve is bad. if it slowly leaks it will cause the water to freeze inside the inlet tube extension blocking water from entering the icemaker and it could leak around the extension tube. after freezing solid the tube may have a crack in it as well. so replace the water valve and take out the inlet tube and extension tube and inspect it for cracks and make sure they mate properly (you can glue them if you want but it might make it harder to clean out if you have the same problem again). a clamp or tie strap may help.

SOURCE: GE side by side by side, water drips from bottom freezer door

I have the same problem. Just talked to a friend that's a great appliance repairman. he said I have to remove the panel in the back inside of freezer and there is a drain that gets clogged up, a little hole or tube.
clean that and should work fine and stop leaking. I haven't had time yet, but this weekend I'll do the deed. Hopes this helps ya!

SOURCE: Ice maker not working

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

Ice maker is leaking water.

hi John.
Troubleshooting an Ice Maker That Leaks

When troubleshooting ice maker there are a lot of different things to be aware of. Ice makers are very useful when working correctly, however if there are any problems, it's important to fix these as quickly as possible. One common problem with ice makers is that they can leak. A leaking ice maker can be a result of a number of different reasons.
You will need to put your detective's cap on in order to inspect and diagnose what is actually causing the problem with your ice maker.
Checking Your Refrigerator For the ice maker to work properly it needs to be perfectly level. If it isn't level, this can cause leakage.
Before leveling the freezer you should unplug it so that you can work on it safely. Check that the freezer is perfectly level by placing a spirit level on top of the freezer from side to side. The leveling feet can then be adjusted by twisting them to raise and lower them. Continue this until the freezer is aligned properly from left to right.
Then repeat the process by putting your spirit level from front to back to ensure the freezer is completely level.
Ice Maker Level The ice maker unit itself can also be leveled. This is inside the unit and can be repositioned if needed. Loosen the mounting screws and align the ice maker unit so that it is perfectly level. After leveling, ensure that the mounting screws are tightened to prevent the ice maker from moving.
Water Supply Line The water supply line could also be damaged or broken. This is the tube that is behind your freezer. It's a fairly strong tube and is susceptible to damage. Check that the pipe isn't pinched or kinked.
Fill Cup When water enters your freezer it will be put into the fill cup. This is a funnel that directs the water into the ice cube molds. If this isn't aligned correctly, it can cause problems with leaks.
If you see any ice forming on the fill cup, this could be because the valve is not working properly.
Inlet Switch Remove the inlet switch and inspect it for signs of corrosion or damage. If any of the terminals have corroded, you will need to replace them. Using a multimeter, you can check that the switch is working properly. Press the switch and check that it connects and reduces the resistance as it should.
Inlet Valve If you are testing the inlet valve, you must first disconnect the power so it's safe to work on your freezer. The inlet valve is located in the bottom of the freezer. Turn the water off at the source and then disconnect the supply line. Use a bucket to catch all of the water from inside the inlet valve.

Label the location of all the wires and disconnect them. You will also need to remove the inlet supply tubes. Using a multimeter, check the resistance of the coil. Also inspect the mechanical functioning of the inlet valve, as it can fail mechanically as well as electronically.
After following this troubleshooting guide for your ice maker that leaks will get you back in business. Now you can enjoy a cold beverage for your hard work!
Comments Troubleshooting an Ice Maker: Ice Tastes Bad
Shares
When troubleshooting ice makers there are a number of steps that you can take to find the cause of the problem and put it right. One common problem is when the ice doesn't taste right. If the ice tastes bad, then there can be a number of reasons for this.
When working out why the ice tastes bad there are several things that you will need to consider. The problem could also be caused by one or more of the factors that could make solving it slightly move complicated.
Washing the Ice Bin The ice bin is the container that stores the ice, if this becomes dirty or moldy it can make the ice taste nasty. Simply taking the ice bin out of the freezer and then washing it will solve the problem. Read the instruction manual to find out where the ice bin is located.
Unscrew or unclip the ice bin and then wash it in warm soapy water. Dry the ice bin and then reassemble it. Place it back into the fridge and then find out whether it has resolved the problem.
Old Food If there is any old food in your refrigerator, it should be removed. The ice could taste funny because of this food. Empty your refrigerator of any old food and wash all of the shelves so that the fridge is completely clean.
Once the old food has been removed and the fridge has been cleaned completely you should then test the ice maker to find out whether the problems still affect you.
Flushing the Supply Line The supply line carries water to the ice maker. Sometimes the water can become stale, which is why you might be able to cure the problem by flushing the water pipe out with fresh clean water.
Test the ice maker after flushing the supply line to ensure that the water is now clean that the ice doesn't taste bad.
Water Inlet Valve If the water inlet valve is damaged, then this could also be because of the water inlet valve. If the water inlet valve is damaged or broken, it can leave the water exposed to smells inside your fridge, which can make the ice taste bad.
The water inlet valve will need replacing if it is damaged or broken. By replacing this water inlet valve you will be able to correct the problem and enjoy better tasting ice.
Replacing the Water Filter There is a water filter inside of your fridges ice maker that is designed to remove particles and bad smells from the water. The water filter needs to be removed and replaced.
The water filter should be replaced with the same type and model suitable for your freezer. Use your freezers model to ensure that the correct filter is fitted.
Supply Line Filter If your fridge doesn't already have a supply line filter, then fitting one could greatly help to reduce problems with the ice tasting bad. These can be fitted to virtually any ice maker.
Now you should be in good shape thanks to this troubleshooting guide for an ice maker that was producing bad tasting ice. It's time to reward yourself with a cold beverage.

Ice maker not making ice, but water dispenser working, just changed filter

If you changed the filter than water may not have made it to the icemaker yet. If you have givin it 24hrs than check these.

There are only 3 things that will prevent an icemaker from not making ice.

1) Temperature in freezer. Most icemakers require that the temp in the freezer is at a minium of 6 degrees. If the thermostat in the icemaker is not reading this temp or below it will not let the icemaker call for water to make ice.

2) Icemaker. Is the arm on the icemaker in the correct position. Most models the arm should be down to operate and up to be off. Faulty icemaker. The internal components of the icemaker may have went out.

3) Water inlet valve. If the silinoid for the icemaker on the inlet valve is stuck it will not allow water to the icemaker. Over time inlet valves wear out.

Troubleshooting- Check the temp in freezer. If not 6 degrees or below you have another problem with your freezer. If at 6 degrees or below and you have ice and water through door unplug fridge, switch the two hoses from the inlet valve (NOT Possible on all inlets so check to make sure you can remove the hoses by pushing in on the cylinder that hose feeds into and pulling hose out) Switch the hoses than press the water through door feature. If you get water inlet valve is good. If you dont have ice and water though door than have your inlet valve tested. If inlet is good and temp is good replace icemaker. If you have any questions or need further assistance please respond. Thank you

No water being delivered to the ice maker tray . Water in the door works, new water filter. Tried disconnecting power for 5 mins. Can the water intake freeze. Should I let the freezer defrost ???

There is a tube that feeds the icemaker if you follow the water line from the inlet valve up the back of fridge and remove full tube you can see any ice buildup or try these.

Ice maker dont work

There are several things that can prevent and icemaker from working.
1- Temp in freezer. If the temp in the freezer is higher than 6 degrees the ice makers thermistat will not call for water.
2- Water inlet valve. If the inlet valve is malfunctioning the silinoid may not be opening. Even if you are getting water through the door.
3- Faulty ice maker. If the internal components of the ice maker are no longer functioning it wont make ice.

To test the inlet valve. In the back of the fridge is and access panel near the bottom remove this panel and look at the inlet valve. now you should see 3 hoses. One is usually copper and runs directly from the house water supply. There will be two other hoses from the inlet. One leads into the fridge for the water in door feature. The other is for the icemaker. Switch the two hoses from the ice maker ( water in door and icemaker) than push the water in door feature and see if the water goes into icemaker. If it does not than replace inlet. If does and temp in freezer is below 6 degrees replace icemaker.

If you need further assistance please comment me back.

Ice-maker does not work. water valve seems to be working.

There are 3 things that can prevent an ice maker from not working.
1- Temperature of freezzer- Temp must be below 6 degrees on most ice makers.
2- Water inlet valve- Depending on how your ice maker cycles it calls for water for 7.2 seconds. If you have ice and water though the door you have a dual valve and the ice maker selinoid ine the inlet may be bad. Also make sure water is getting to valve. Just because water is coming through the door does not mean water is entering fridge. There is a reservoir in fringe that holds around 3 gallons of water that can still make water come out the door without water entering fridge.
3- Faulty Ice maker- over time the winding and other components can get worn out and fail.

First check the temperature in the freezer.
Next check the inlet valve. To do this you need to remove the hose going from the inlet valve to ice maker and switch with the hose leading to door. Push the actuator in the door to call for water and see if water enters the ice maker. If it does inlet is good. Replace Icemaker. If not replace inlet valve. There may be a problem with the icemaker still but wont know until inlet is fixed.

If you have anymore problems or you need further assistance please feel free to contact

My freezer is not making ice and the water only drips out of the water side

There could be a couple dif problems. If the temp in the freezer is not below 6 degrees the thermistat in the ice maker will not call for water. The selinoid in the water inlet valve for the freezer may be bad. The ice maker itself may be bad.

To test the inlet valve switch the hoses and see if it calls for water when you call for water in the door. To do this you will need a 1/4 inch nut driver. Remove the panel in the back of the fridge on the outside. Push the connector inwards and pull the hose out. Most inlet valves you can do this with. Switch the hoses and push the water through the door button . If you cant do this you have 2 choices. Either call a technician to test the inlet valve or take a gamble and replace and hope this works.

If the inlet valve is good and the freezer temp is below 6 degrees replace the ice maker.

My Maytag side by side with water dispenser and ice maker doesn't work. We bought a house - never lived in - and the fridge and freezer work fine. We replaced the water filter and find that no water comes...

The sadle valve is located on the copper pipe where the tube attaches to your water pipe in the house. Shut the water off at the saddle valve. Remove the hose from the rear of the frig on the water inlet valve and put it into a pail. Tunr the water on at the saddle valve and see how fast the water comes out. Some times if the saddle valve is installed on the bottom of the copper pipe they will get corrosive and restrict water flow. Open and close the valve several times to make sure it is clear and reinstall the hose to the rear of the frig. Turn the water back on to see if it works.

Ice maker not making ice

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips and replace it if it does.

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

Kenmore Ice Maker Not Making Ice

the water that is frozen in the fill tube could have come from the old water valve that you replaced ,you got to get the ice out, the easiest way ,though not the fastest ,is to unplug fridge for 24 hrs . and leave the doors open to let it defrost, the plug back up and hopefully in 5 or 6 hrs you'll have ice

NO WATER OR ICE AT DOOR OR IN ICE MAKER

This is Gene's solution not mine, for a Ge fridge.
Assuming the ice dispenser works fine, the first thing I would check is the water filter, then the water inlet valve on the back of the fridge.

If the water filter is more than a year old it will cause restriction to the water flow.

Locate the water inlet valve on the back of the fridge. Remove the wires from the blue solenoid and check for 120V coming to the solenoid while the water dispenser lever is depressed.

If there is 120V then the water inlet valve has to be replaced.
