Over 50% packet loss when using WiFi. Connectivity over LAN is perfect. What could be the issue? Please refer to the details section for an in-depth review.

Hey All, a long time poster here. Coming back to fixya after ages : Any help would be gladly appreciated. I have windows 10 Pro installed on my Dell 5521r laptop. The issue at the helm is the faulty WiFi adapter. I have over 50% packet loss, which makes it mostly unable to use. I would also get no connectivity at times, or my adapter would simply fail to show up. The LAN works perfect however. Now I have run some tests of my own. The issue does not lie with the router. Over 5 other devices have been tested which work great over the WiFi connection without any loss. Another thing I'd like to share. The issue came forward after I installed an iPhone backup recovery tool and opened a malicious PDF out of curiosity, downloaded randomly by IDM. Now, my Google Chrome always loses its profile details on exit. Microsoft excel or word frequently crashes as well. I have run and removed several virus / malwares from my PC. My last hope is this community, I certainly don't want to reinstall the original windows :/ Thanks!

Malware bytes is a good choice. Download it on a thumb drive from another pic. If you can download the update file from another PC and install it also that would be good. Make sure you are disconnected from the internet while scanning with Malwarebytes so your PC can't download additional malware. Also try to boot into safe mode then run Malwarebytes in safe mode. Then only critical programs will start in safe mode and it's more likely to be able to remove the virus/malware.

The usb port on that computer may be failing. Is it a 2.0 or better? try another usb port. If thats not the issue, run malwarebytes, and reinstall the wifi adapter.

I reset my Comtrend modem and connected it with my laptop but when i type in the default IP in the browser it doesnt connect to it, when I try ping in cmd with this address the packets fail to be received...

try using a phone to get onto your settings for your modem and check connectivity, which i suspect is fine, the problem is probably with your WIFI card, so try using a LAN cable to connect to your modem directly using port 4. Message back after youv'e done these steps and we'll try problem solving the issues. best regards.

I have a nokia x3 and i want to connect ti to the internet through wlan but i cant

No you can't connect your Nokia X3 to a wireless LAN network because it doesn't have WiFi capability. Please read the specifications of your phone from the following link for further details.(http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_x3-2923.php ).In this page you can see WLAN - 'No' for your phone. However you can use packet data services such as GPRS and EDGE on your phone to connect to the internet. For free packet data settings please contact your Network service provider. Please don't forget to rate me if satisfied. Thanks for choosing Fixya.

My router is on but it seems so slow. i keep getting randomly disconnected, the connection is terrible and even when i turn it off for 30 seconds and on again it stills acts up, any ideas?

ping your router with a packet length strength. To do the ping test, go to Start-Run and type CMD and hit enter. Then, in the Command Prompt Window type in the following

ping 192.168.0.1 -l 30000 9

I suppose the 192.168.0.1 will be the default gateway of your router. To check which is the default gateway of your router you can double click the connection icon on your PC, and click the Support tab. You'll see the degault gateway IP third on the list.

Now, if it pings back all three times with times below 100ms then ok. If it doesnt then reduce the ping length to 20000, if again you have losses then reduce it again to 10000. If the ping loses packets and response is slow you'll probably need a new power cord.
If the pinging is ok at 30k then you'll probably need to change the LAN cable that leads from your internet connection onto the wifi router.
To verify this, run this command

ping google.com -l 10000 and see if you have any losses. If you do have losses, then do a ping like this

ping google.com -l 32000 if you again have losses in the ping then you'll need to change your LAN cable because the 32kb packet is almost a standard size of packets and it should have no problems to get through the router, unless the LAN cable is bad.

Hope this helps. Please vote a Thumbs Up if you found this useful and informative.
