Hey All, a long time poster here. Coming back to fixya after ages : Any help would be gladly appreciated. I have windows 10 Pro installed on my Dell 5521r laptop. The issue at the helm is the faulty WiFi adapter. I have over 50% packet loss, which makes it mostly unable to use. I would also get no connectivity at times, or my adapter would simply fail to show up. The LAN works perfect however. Now I have run some tests of my own. The issue does not lie with the router. Over 5 other devices have been tested which work great over the WiFi connection without any loss. Another thing I'd like to share. The issue came forward after I installed an iPhone backup recovery tool and opened a malicious PDF out of curiosity, downloaded randomly by IDM. Now, my Google Chrome always loses its profile details on exit. Microsoft excel or word frequently crashes as well. I have run and removed several virus / malwares from my PC. My last hope is this community, I certainly don't want to reinstall the original windows :/ Thanks!
Malware bytes is a good choice. Download it on a thumb drive from another pic. If you can download the update file from another PC and install it also that would be good. Make sure you are disconnected from the internet while scanning with Malwarebytes so your PC can't download additional malware. Also try to boot into safe mode then run Malwarebytes in safe mode. Then only critical programs will start in safe mode and it's more likely to be able to remove the virus/malware.
The usb port on that computer may be failing. Is it a 2.0 or better? try another usb port. If thats not the issue, run malwarebytes, and reinstall the wifi adapter.
