Do you need a type rating to fly your own Bitchcraft 1900 or Cessna CJ2?

The type rating is required in aircraft that need additional training. It is a safety of flight issue not a for hire issue.

What happens if a private Cessna 172 pilot tries to land at big airports like JFK or O'Hair when there is no emergency?

It's quite permissible to do so, however a general aviation pilot in a low performance plane should be ready for fast instructions and quite a bit of maneuvering to stay out of the way. The best time to do it would be at night. Here's a youtube video of one doing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKvWn317tpU

Is it possible for a flight school to pay for your pilot training?

Not likely. Flight schools get paid for teaching people how to fly. If they paid you for learning how to fly, they would go out of business. If you worked for them you could gain flight hours teaching others to fly, but you need hundreds of hours before you can become a flight instructor.

Where do you land if there is an emergency during a trans-atlantic flight?

You're stuck with a water landing (ditching). Hopefully at altitude the pilot can see a ship and make the landing in the vicinity of the ship for quick rescue. It so rare for a plane to lose power to all engines though that you should never hear of such an incident. Depending on the route, however, Bermuda may be within gliding distance.

Do pilot's licenses expire?

The license or "certificate" does not expire, however you must have a flight review every 24 calendar months with an instructor in order to continue to fly. The flight review consists of at least 1 hour of ground school and 1 hour of dual flight with the instructor to ensure you haven't developed any bad habits.

How long might it take to earn a private pilot's license? And what sort of aircraft are you permitted to fly once you have one?

Flying becomes a passion if it's what you're meant to do. Once you take that first lesson you will never see an airplane again without yearning to be in that front seat. You should go up for an introductory flight at your local airport and see how it goes. You can get a sport pilot certificate to start if you want. It's cheaper and would meet the needs of most any recreational pilot.

Why do some small planes and helicopters just fly around aimlessly?

Students and certificated pilots both are required to remain current and to have a check ride (flight review with an instructor) every 24 calendar months. The ones you're seeing are probably going out to the practice area to practice their flight maneuvers. If a pilot doesn't practice regularly his or her skills can deteriorate rapidly.
