Only young, dum* infantrymen call people POGs. Those of use that are more mature understand that everyone has an important role. I used to hate on POGs until my first tour in Iraq. Our attached motor transport 7 ton driver had 3 purple hearts. On several occassions I witnessed him park on top of an IED in order to shield the dismounts from the blast in case it detonated. Maybe not the smartest move, but he saved plenty of dudes from getting shrapnel. The enemy doesnt care what MOS you are, they just want to kill you because you are an American serviceman/woman. Grow up. This is coming from an infantryman with multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
first, there is not much off duty time. most people either stand watch and work 12 hours a day.
in the other 12 you usually sleep, work out, read, watch movies, play cards. there are no clubs or diners. four meals a day are provided and there is a "Gedunk", the Navy equivalent of a small 7-11.
No. most countries organized armed forces will issue the weapons they want you to use. they can better maintain and support them rather than having 100s of different types of weapons.
However you may be able to volunteer to carry one of the many squad/platoon weapons provided.
I recommend joining the Air Force if you want to become a pilot however, people don't just become pilots after having a Bachelors. You have to meet the requirements, pass the exams and be medically cleared and in shape, this applies to all branches. On the other hand its a challenge that only you can decide. I recommend talking to the nearest recruiter.
