Can u use the Weller universal soldering gun for making and repairing jewelry?

There are several websites that teach you how to use the tool including tips. you can go to weller .com the most important tip is once its plugged in and depending on the soldering gun. some are activated by a trigger and some are not, handle the tip with care because it gets extremely hot and can cause injury if one is not careful. if the tip is hot keep it away from anything that can ignite or flammable materials. its a good tool for making permanant wire splices, used in conjunction with tinned solder and flux. not recommended for doing pc board repair because of the extreme head produced. can also be used to shrink tubing around wire splices. good luck!

Was it copper that bubbled up or just some kind of covering? If the latter, just scrape off the residue, then tin the tip as normal. If it was the first, it would have been a flaw in the copper--just replace the tip with a new one. It's hardly worth trying to get warranty on it. Hope this helps!

25 watts is a pretty light iron for the kind of work you are doing, but if it works---. Tips that are just bare copper tend to erode over time (the heat causes the copper to mix with the solder and thus erode). The better tips have iron plating over the copper which protects the copper. Silver solder applied over the bare copper works in much the same way and can be applied with a propane torch. Hope this helps!

these are not worth repairing as the main part of a soldering iron is the transformer which is what causes the tip to get so hot, so if yours is giving off smoke and excessive heat probably the transformer is starting to cook itself which means it has to be replaced. I would guess that the transformer will cost you more then a replacement soldering gun on ebay would cost. Hope This Helps Don

It depends on what you say is slow, I have used weller soldering guns and desoldering guns for about 30 years. They come up to top heat in about 3min. If it is taking longer than that then there is a problem with the heating unit. You can call weller tech help number, should be on iron base and they can tell you how to test the heat unit.
