20-year Briggs on a Generac platform runs fine. Replaced the pump with RMW 2.2G24 unit. It will not turn. Keyed shaft is properly aligned. Is there something I need to release to get the pump to turn?

under warranty , you best have to wait the time as anything you do to fix it will void the warranty which will suit the service agent just fine if you void the warranty he will get 2 hours travelling time plus the cost to repair time so don't touch it
You could try sending your question to the Customer service on the Briggs & Stratton Website. Maybe they will be able to explain and suggest a good solution.
The gear on the crankshaft is 'keyed' and has a dimple on one of the teeth. That dimple aligns with the dimple made into one of the teeth on the camshaft.
Believe it or not, I had this same thing happening on our L120 John Deere. Turned out to be a plugged gas cap vent! At first I couldn't believe it but i resolved it with my air compressor. Now I always make sure the vent is clean and have had no problems since.
