I have try to make space on my I pad but I can't get my emails back

If you have set up your email account as an IMAP account, your emails are on the server, but if you delete them on your iPad, they are also delete on the server.
if you have set up your email account as a POP3 account, your emails are downloaded to your iPad ... if you delete them on your iPad, they are still on the server, so you can retrieve them. However, POP3 accounts don't show you the email folders that are on the server. You need to decide which is more important to you. On the iPad, do you want privacy (POP3) or flexibility (IMAP).
A POP3 account will also continue to use up more space (memory) and not clean-up (clear) ... eventually, you will have to delete the account to try to minimize the amount of used space. I don't know why it does this, but I have been fighting this problem for 4 years on two different versions of the iPhone. My iPhone is setup as POP3, while my iPad is set up as IMAP. I have not found a good answer to this problem.

When I go to email on my Ipad my Inbox is overflowing with old emails that I had previously deleted on my desktop, how do I get rid of them quickly and stop others coming in

Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars then tap the account you're having trouble with.

Assuming you're using an IMAP account, tap the account user ID on the first line. Scroll to the bottom and tap Advanced.

Tap Deleted Mailbox. In the ON THE SERVER section, tap Trash (making the Trash mailbox on the server your "Trash" location). Back up to Advanced and make sure MOVE DISCARDED MESSAGES INTO: is set to Deleted Mailbox.

You may want to do the same thing for your Sent Mailbox (using Sent on the server for sent messages - so they're retrievable from your desktop).

This fix may result in all the old deleted messages on the iPad being moved to the server and then showing up again in your deleted messages on your desktop. The Mail app will eventually delete them as it does any deleted messages according to its settings.

Select the account that you want to delete emails from. Select the folder (for example -Trash) Tap on this folder, and you will see the word "Edit" at the top right. Tap on Edit, select the emails that you want to delete (a blue check mark will appear to the left of each selection), and then look for the word "Delete" at the bottom right of the list of emails that you have selected. Tap on Delete and that should solve your problem.

I need to delete 4000 emails from my ipad

. Your ipad does not store those emails on your ipad so if you are having a storage problem, that won't fix it. To delete all the emails though, you have to go to the email account itself and delete them from there.

You don't have to delete his account. It is simply the "default." If you setup your own mail account, you can then make your account the default. You will afterwards set up your own Skype account using your own email address. Nothing stops you from setting up a Gmail (Google) account. If you don't know how, simply google "how to set up a google email account." As to how to make that the default account on your iPad, where the menu item is to do that may depend upon the version of the operating system. Here is one depicted instruction set:
