Most laptops have a combination of buttons you have to press on the keyboard to get it to output on the monitor output. Try pressing the FUNCTION KEY or FUNC/FN key usually found in the bottom left hand side of the keyboard. Keep that button held down while press one of the number keys. Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.
To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).

Additional information for given answer: Don't bother with the ch/pg button as the instructions mention; simply enter the code and press the TV button. 0044 worked for me after doing this, but not when pressing the ch/pg buttons as the instructions indicate.
