Most likely cause is one of your speakers has shorted out or the wiring to them. try disconnecting them one at a time as this may help isolate the problem.

If your playing alot of bass music it could be a poor connection on one of the wires check your wiring also make sure your amp is able to keep cool because this could also be a reason i had similar issues with mine once hope this solves yours.

SOURCE: the amp turns on but goes to protection mode

Have you checked the REM wire, if it is the wiring may have gotten fried.

Or you may need to get new parts replaced within the amp.

Both issues happened to me.

SOURCE: MY AMP GOES ON PROTECT MODE WHEN I TURN IT ON

Very likely to be a bad earth.

Check the earth connection to the chassis of the vehicle. Remove the screw/bolt and clean around it with a wire brush or wire wool.

May also be a good idea to check for continuity using a multimeter.

Remember to try to have the earth connection as close to the amp as possible, as this will cut down on the risk of a bad earth and will minimise interferance.

SOURCE: My amp automatically goes into protect mode

There are 4 reasons an amplifier tries to protect itself.

Overheating - thermal shutdown.

Over Impedence - The subwoofers installed are not configured into a load the amplifier can handle.

Output is grounded - a positive wire strand may be touching the ground terminal - a wire may be shorted, or a speaker voicecoil is blown.

Intennal problem - Output on amplifier blown, or some other component has failed.

Check your wiring to the amplifier again - if all is good - disconnect the speakers and try to power on. If the amplifier turns on normally - test the speakers for blown coils.

If the amplifier still goes into protect mode - the problem is internal and needs professional repair.

SOURCE: my amp goes into protection mode at high volume

Hi does the amp return to normal operation once the volume is lowered? If so it sounds like the amp is seeing too low an ohmage due to the way the subs are wired & they are drawing too much current so the protection circuit intervenes to prevent damage. The minimum ohmage this amp must be operated at is 2 ohms so if you are running at 1 ohm this will cause the problem you are experiencing.
Cheers, acbva.

My amp is a kenwood kac-9152d it goes in to protection mode soon as you hook up the power

In protection mode do you mean the light comes on and it plays music and stuff? If that's the case, that's what the amp is supposed to do. Protect itself from a power surge

Protected mode on songs

Some (most) WMA and AAC files are protected and some are unprotected - you cannot "unprotect" them, except by downloading illegal-to-use software such as Tunebite.

To avoid a future recurrence of this problem, only load songs that are in mp3 format onto your player. They are all unprotected.

Kenwood amp kac-x401m

How long will the bass play before the amp kicks into protection mode and how loud are you listening to it? I've noticed with my amps that if they don't have enough air flow they will get hot and kick into protection mode. They will also kick into protection mode if you are running it at more than it can handle. Check your adjustments on both your amp and the head unit. Make sure you are not running more bass than the amp can handle.

Philips GoGear mp3

Sounds like the files are DRM copy protected.

You can check for protected tracks.
  • In Windows Explorer, go to the folder where the tracks are stored on your PC.
  • Click on View -----> Details
  • Right click on the header bar in the right hand window and select protected. (If protected is not listed click on More)
  • Tracks will be listed with No or Yes under "protected". Check your non-playing tracks are listed as No, under "protected".
The HDD1830 is not compatible with protected files, although your PC will play them ok.

Amp turns off or goes to protected mode during long low base

Let me take a stab at it There are two types of resistance... Static and dynamic. These resistance change depending on the position of the cone. Now im guessing the short bursts of bass are not small ones. If the cones are forced further than allowed the resistance of the combinded drivers may drop below the rated impediance for the amp...causing the amp to into protection to keep itself from over driving itself (the less reistance a amp sees the more power it will produce, till it essential blows itself up)
