John Deer Generator Serial number on John Deere engine is CD4045C037188 & there is an aditional number on the data plate 4045TF258. Original oil filter still fitted but painted so I can not see the part number.

Use paint thinners to remove the paint and reveal the part number
ask JD spares for the part number
get a ryco wicks , delco, fram, etc catalogue and get the filter suitable for that engine after all JD do make filters but use off the shelf equipment with expensive JD green paint on it
Okay that didn't help me. The paint thinners damaged the original paint on the filter as well, so no number is visible.
