no sir gary,
the water would not go to the drain pan if you install it vertically.
water would just drop anywhere and would ruin a lot of things...

This may not be what you want.
But it's a step.

SOURCE: mold inside the home unit
You can use a spray bottle with 100% bleach in it to kill the mold. After spraying the gunk, you can put on some rubber gloves (those dishwashing ones are a good choice) and use some paper towels to wipe up as much of the mold as you can reach.
Spray more bleach on the parts you're cleaning to keep sanitizing the A/C unit and wipe everything dry. You should put all the stuff you used for cleaning it up (paper towels, gloves, etc.) into a plastic trash bag,
I'd also recommend that you do this when any small children and pets aren't in the room you've got the A/C in, and also wear a face mask to keep from breathing in anything that could cause a respritory ailment.
You can also use some Lysol disenfectant to give the whole unit a nice going over, once you're done, to be sure that you've killed any active mold spores. It might be good to give the unit a once-a-month cleaning to prevent the growth of mold in the future.
Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Hi,
The best thing you can do is to mix a 1-10 clorox water mix and spray it down with a spray bottle...thta will kill and control the mold. a few days later rinse again to wash the **** down the drain.
