There should be 2 plastic tabs which you have to push in, this removes the wider outer base cover of the strimmer spool, giving you access to the bump cap and line spool.

Depending on the style you have, one looks to be a whole replaceable spool unit, one looks like a re-threadable spool.

some strimmers have two tabs on either side of the spool which yousqueeze while pulling up.

try Lowes or any Agway, and if that dowsn't work, try checking on line with your type of trimmer.

Old post i know, but i have had this issue of the line snapping and it was because the metal ferrule in the spool holder was missing.

Hi, mine broke yesterday (Sovereign HG500B Grass Trimmer). I took the grass trimmer to Homebase but they've told me that this model has been discontinued and they don't sell spare parts for it. I believe it's still within the guarantee period so if I can find the reciept they'll organise some sort of replacement, but if I can find somewhere that sells a replacement spool cover I'd rather just buy that and replace it...so far no luck.

the eyelets on the trimmer head may be worn and cutting the line ..look for groves in the eyeleys may need to replace the spool

You have the string wound the wrong way on the spool. Wind clockwise onto spool.

Do you mean that the string keeps feeding as you try to operate the trimmer?

If so, you are winding the string on the spool the wrong way. Put the string on the spool in a clockwise direction. This should do it.

try taking off the spool at the end of the trimmer and wineing the line around the spool and putting the spool back on the end of the trimmer
