Does the key stop the engine? sounds like the safety switches have been bypassed. If the engine runs while not sitting in the seat, the switches are bypassed.

Why does nothing happen when I turn the key on my Troy Bilt Tractor? It worked last week, then tried this week and nothing.

IS there a switch in the drivers seat? Some have kill switches so if the driver gets up, it shuts down.

I have a 21 HP Kohler engine in my 2007 Sears 42 " lawn tractor. I did the 100 hour tune up last year. It's been fine up until this week when I would notice a puff of white smoke towards front, possibly...

Oil will be drawn into the engine under heavy acceleration, irrespective of load. Check this before you worry! You might also check for any external leaks of oil or hydraulic fluids around the exhaust area which could cause white smoke at odd intervals.
Good luck

Brakes stop brake disc but wheels still turn

sounds like a missing or broken key way were tire slides onto axle, should be a slot on axle each side on rear axle where half moon key sits in and tire has notch where fits over key way on axle

My craftsman 42" lawn tractor won't shut off.

when you turn off the key you are breaking the power circuit to the coil. If it keeps running then the coil is still getting power. Check for a wire touching the power wire before the switch that runs to the coil

Need to get manual for Craftsman lawn tractor model 486.24276 to be able to order new ignition assembly.

Hi, Look at your model number under the seat again. You are missing the last digit of the number.
managemylife.com has all the manuals for Craftsman lawn tractors. Go to the manuals tab and type in "Craftsman 24276" and you can view, print, and save off your manual for free.
If you need parts you can get them at searspartsdirect.com. Just put in your model number and parts diagrams will pop up.
One last thing. If you live near a large Sears Store (mall store) they may have your ignition switch in the Lawn & Garden dept. Look on the wall with the mower blades. That will save you the shipping costs you would have to pay from searspartsdirect
If you have any other questions, just ask. Don't forget to rate this answer.

My craftsman 17hp lawn tractor shutters bad when releasing the clutch pedal. is it the clutch and where is it located?

Its not really a clutch, clutch/brake pedal when pressed will release belt pressure which stops pulley from turn axle. When predded all the way down it mechanically applies brakes. The vibration is from a bad pully that the drive belt rides on or a bad belt. Look for chucks of belt missing. With engine off put on parking brake and manually wiggle each pulley that drive belt rides on to see if there is any play. No play should be present. Good luck.

Craftsman 20HP , can't stop freewheeling,

Sounds like your problem is the key in your rear wheel is missing or sheared, you have to remove the wheel @ tire assembly ,pull rubber cap off then clip to remove if one of the keys is sheared or gone it will go into gear and the brake will work ,but they will only stop the shaft without the key it will not move or brake becuase its not attached if you know what I mean.
