Yes, it is very possible that the thermal cutoff is gone...however there will be no OEM replacement for that available....the only parts available are the stuff people normally break...or lose...
My bet would be that the main circuit board is fried anyway...

Click here for the instruction manual...it says that you have a 3 year warranty and gives the address where to send it for repair...they would probably just replace it...if it is under the 3 year warranty.

You have a short in the switch. These units have a 3 year warranty. Call cuisinart 1-800-726-0190 they will replace unit for a $10 shipping charge. Very easy to deal with. If your unit is older that 3 years, try taking switch apart and cleaning and stretching spring.

You have a short. Eventually it won't work at all. Call Cuisinart if under 3 years old they will replace for $10 shipping charge. Also cheaper to buy new one than get fixed if out of warranty. 1-800-726-0190

The "Brew+3 button" fix posted earlier for DCC-2000 didn't work for me, but the following procedure seems to have solved this same problem, for now (I've since brewed twice, but am still awaiting the first programmed brew tomorrow morning). :

Unplug unit; set function switch to Program; hold hour button in, (alone or together with '1-4' button - not sure which one worked for me, so try one, then the other). After a couple of attempts, the display should return. Problem might be related to repeated plugging/unplugging of unit.

Same thing here, just call the 1-800-726-0190, they will send you out a new one. You'll have to pay a $10.00 shipping and return the old one. You should have your new coffee maker in 7 - 10 days, customer service was nice and very helpful. No complaints here except, what do I do for coffee for the next 7 - 10 days?????????? LOL
