SOURCE: i have a 18 volt

Try holding the bit with pliers and running in reverse, maybe with a shot of oil. That might free it up. You can also try tapping it (firmly) on the side of the bit

Broke bit inside chuck and piece is lodged in there now. Pulling out on chuck release does not allow broken part of bit to come out. Do I need to take drill apart or remove chuck to get broken bit out of...

TAKE THE OUTER CHUCK PEICES OFF THE IMPACT!! THERE WILL BE A C-CLIP, WASHER, SPRING AND ONE OR TWO BALL BEARINGS AND THE OUTER HOUSING, IN THAT ORDER! WITH ALL OF THAT OFF, MOUNT THE ANVIL IN A BENCH VISE WITH BRASS JAWS OR BETWEEN TWO PEICES OF WOOD, UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE TRICK IS TO HAVE THE BIT FALL OUT OF THE CHUCK ONCE IT IS LOOSE!!!! NOW WITH IT MOUNTED IN THE VICE AND PRETTY TIGHT, TURN THE TOOL ON UNTILL IT FALLS OUT, IT WORKS GREAT IF HAVE DONE IT ABOUT 75 TIMES!! MOST PEOPLE THINK I'M A WIZARD!! BUT IT'S REALLY EASY. WITH IT MOUNTED SOLID IN THE VISE THE ANVIL HITS SO FAST AND HARD IT VIBRATES THE ANVIL, IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE BALL BEARINGS HOLDING THE BIT, YOU WILL BE DOING THIS ALL DAY. SOMETIMES, IN THE CHEAPER BITS IT WILL ROTATE AND GALL UP SO BAD THAT IT WILL NEVER COME OUT, IN THAT CASE YOUR BUYING A NEW ANVIL ASSY. JIMS TOOL SERVICE

My Makita BHP451 Li ion battery drill periodically the varible speed does not work, ie. the button works as a on/off switch - any idea what's wrong. Thanks Bjarne

Bjarne, odds are the variable speed function of the trigger is failing. There are Makita repair centers that perform repair, and sell parts if you want to take it on as a DIY project. Before proceeding, I would make sure the warranty has expired. If it is still in warranty a Makita repair center should repair it for no charge.

Hi i broke the chuck on my 1/2 makita cordless

Put the biggest hex key you have in the chuck and tighten it then hit it clockwise with the spindle lock engaged a couple of times. The screw in the chuck will then undo clockwise and the chuck can be undone after by putting the allen key back in and unscrewing it anti-clockwise maybe with a light tap from a mallet.
Hope this helps

Chuck jaws on Makita 8444D fell out

There is suppose to be a flat head Left hand thread chuck screw in there. It may have fallen out. You will not be able to put the jaws back into the chuck. You will have to replace the chuck with a new one. If you make sure that the chuck screw is not there you can remove the chuck with a couple of steps. Make sure the drill is in it's lowest gear. Use a strap wrench or some large vise grips on the chuck. If there is still one jaw in the chuck make sure it is all the way open and locking the collar to the chuck. The chuck will come off in the regular lefty loosey configuration. It may be stubborn. If this is the case, You may have to cut the collar off the chuck and use a pipe wrench. Or bring it to a professional to get it changed out.
