I have a maytag 5000 series washer. We are getting an f21 error code. I unscrewed the white drain filter and cleared it. There was little in it. I keep getting the f21 error though. Can you help?

The SUD code is a result from oversudsing. BE SURE to use an HE detergent. The f21 code shows the machine is taking too long to drain as a result of too many suds. Start the washer with a cap full of fabric softener and nothing else. If it goes through the cycle as it should then you're good. If it doesn't, then replace the pump.

Push the pause/cancel button twice to clear your message. Then run through a rinse/spin cycle. Next try a normal load without any detergent. SUDS is usually from too much detergent. If this fails, checked the hose for kinks. Check connections and if all that fails, you will probably have to replace the pump. Good Luck!

Check the drain and pump for any items blocking flow.

Unplug the washer. Then plug it back in and press the button that turns it off. This should unlock the door. Same thing happened on mine and there was a kink in the drain hose. Once I unkinked the hose, unplugged it, plugged it back in, turned it off, then I was able to run a drain & spin cycle to get the water out of the load that was in the washer. I then ran a full wash cycle (they'd gotten stuck in the first drain & spin cycle of a wash) and everything seems to be fine now.

The F21 means long drain and thats exactly what your experiencing. It is taking along time to drain because something is stuck in the pump filter screen,here is what to do to clean the filter screenStart by unscrewing that just a little and use towel/tupperware tubs and catch the water that will come out. Once all the water is out remove completly and check for a blockage

F21 error means that the drain time has exceeded 8 minutes; this will turn off the water valves. Press PAUSE/CANCEL two times to clear the display. If errors still remains then please check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. Disassemble the washer by removing the back from the washer and check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is draining. Also inspect the pump filter for foreign objects. Before disassembling remember to turn off the power and disconnect the washer. If it still doesn't help then there is an issue with the pump and you'll need to replace it. Hope this helps... F21 error is displayed when the washer is unable to drain, press PAUSE/CANCEL button twice to clear the display. After this please check the drain hose and drain pump filter for any blockages and make sure it is not clogged with foreign particles. You can also check the drain pump to verify that its working. i had the same problem. take the bottom cover off of the front of the washer. on the right you will see a round white screw off cover, it is very tight, it unscrews counter clock-wise. pull this out and see if there is any debris in it. if you look into the hole on the right side there is a hole about 1 inch round, this is the pump opening. you may have to take the gray drain hose off of the back of the pump housing and feel if anything is stuck in there, in my case there was a penny stuck side ways blocking the flow of water. after i took it out the washer has been running great again. this is obviously a design flaw, that something that large could manage to get that far, lucky for me it didn't damage the pump impeller. hope this helps. this should take care of the SD and the F21 error codes.
