Are you saying that the lights are no coming on and there is no action at all? If you have no power at all you will no be able to perform diagnostics. You can look and see if the control board is receiving power by checking the L.E.D. light on the board. To access the board you will remove the screws going across the back of the console and then with a putty knife depress the clip on either end of the console from the front and tip it toward you. Please be super careful because there is electricity in this area. We don't want you to be come damaged with servicing your machine. If you need further assistant I am here to help.

It displays 'control lock' with red light

Here are a few Different models as i do not know yours.
How to Unlock the Control on Whirlpool Duet eHow

Maytag - To unlock the controls, press and hold the CYCLE END SIGNAL for 3 deliberate seconds or until the control lock light goes out. If the control locked light will not turn off, I recommend unplugging the washer for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in and see if the controls will respond. If not, I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair the washer. You could have a failed control console or a bad electronic control board in the washer.

Kemmore- Unplug for 10 minutes.

GE washer - Make sure that the control for the washer is not locked. If it is, press and hold the LOCK button for 3 deliberate seconds (or until the control unlocks).

There is not another way to reset the control board other than completely unplugging the washer as you have been doing. Since the display light up and works, the washer apparently has electrical power supplied to the control board and control console. You could have a failure in the console that is preventing the start button from working. A failed control board or a problem with the door switch could also prevent the washer from starting. Make sure that the washer door is firmly closed.

If the washer will not start after checking the control lock and the door, I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair the washer.
Good luck More info would be helpful. Make and model. Is always a plus.

I have a Kenmore model 11049962603 that displayed an f-71 error code. I ordered a new cpu computer from sears and installed it. the machine seemed to work for one or two loads. now it displays an f-70...

I provided a complete list of error codes for this type of washer in the image below. The error codes vary by the exact model of HE3t washer that you have. Since you have an HE3t that is displaying the F70 and F71 codes, the list below should apply to your model. These are not listed in the owner's manual because they are intended for technicians. Use extreme caution if you follow any of the troubleshooting described in this information sheet. Unplug the washer and shut off the water supply before accessing internal components.

The F70 and F71 codes indicate that you have a communication error between the CCU (Central Control Unit or main machine control board) and the user interface touch pad assembly. Here are some troubleshooting tips:

Make sure that you have the washer plugged into a properly grounded 3 prong 120 volt AC electrical outlet.

Unplug the washer for 30 seconds to allow the control boards to power down and reset. Plug the washer back in but do not touch the power button (or any other buttons) for 1 full minute. This may reset the control board. Pressing the power button too quickly after reapplying electrical power to the washer can cause the F70 or F71 code since the CCU does not have time to recognize the user interface control.

If the above tip does not help then the most suspect component failure is the MCU (motor control unit -- motor control board at the bottom of the washer beside the drive motor). You can check for this failure by unplugging the washer and then pulling the MI3 connection on the CCU. The wiring diagram below has the MI3 connection highlighted in red. The connection has blue wires. The third image below shows this connection on the control board. The connections are labeled on the control board. Press the tab at the bottom of this plug down and then pull it out. Power up the machine with this connection unplugged and don't touch any buttons for 1 minute. If you then press the power button to turn on the washer and don't get the F70 or F71 code then the MCU at the bottom of the washer will likely need to be replaced to fix this problem. A technician would normally be needed to verify this failure and replace the MCU. The MCU is expensive ($423).

This troubleshooting information is based on a common HE3t model that displays the F70 and F71 codes. If you need more help, submit additional details and the full model number of your HE3t washer.

Will not turn on , lights come on, displays cycle time but does not start.

Hello, this is often the electronic card, or motor relay, but it is often worth unplugging and resetting any component connector plugs and sockets, as they can work loose, and low-level electronics sensors rely on good connections.WITH ALL POWER OFF check all you can see, and reset any you can see(i.e unplug and replug).
Thanks

Washer will not spin

Electronic motor needs to be reset. Unplug for 2 minutes, plug back in, open and close lid slowly 7 times to reset computer. Also check to see if belt is not broke, pull up top, remove front cover, just lifts off, check belt.
