I have a 1990 toro wheel horse classic 312 8 lawn tractor, it has a 42 inch side discharge deck, What's the deck drive belt size of this mower, model 31-12K801, I have searched for hours

If the belt is in one piece, put a chalk mark on the back of the belt and measure the length by running a tape measure from one side of the mark all the way around the belt until the mark appears. Take that measurement, subtract an inch for stretch and that number is the number of the belt you need. If it's broken in two, not three, then simply measure the length of the belt.

How do you hold the blades on a toro LX460 while breaking the nut loose to change them

Use a piece of 2x4 and a clamp. Clamp the wood to the inside of the deck using the clamp. When the blade comes around and bumps against the wood it should act as a stop. Or you could rig something with a Vise-Grip plier. Lock onto the blade with the Vise-Grip, run a piece of rope from the pliers to a point on the mower where it will stop the blade from turning.

Install belt on toro mower model 70041

For removing/replacing the deck belt, the general method is:

turn off engine, remove key and set parking brake
disengage blade by putting blade engage lever into off (disengaged) position
lower the cutting deck to the lowest position (closest to the ground)
relieve the belt tension (depending on the model, use a 3/8 inch ratchet set to tighten in the square hole of the idler bracket)
remove and replace the belt

NOTE: it's not necessary to completely remove the cutting deck.

If the transmission drive belt needs to be replaced, several components must be removed and special tools (i.e. air/impact wrench) used in order to change the tractor's transmission drive belt. See an Authorized Toro Service Dealer to have your drive belt replaced.
