If you are using a cable box there may be a setting in the cable box that sets and provides the CC from the cable box provider and not from your TV.

Another words the CC is not provided via the TV but from the cable box. Check under the cable box settings if you are using a cable box and disable CC under settings in the box.

If the TV connects directly to an antenna or the cable service (no box) then the CC would have to be decoded in the TV. Usually there is a CC button on the remote exclusively for the Close Caption feature. If not and an alternative choice to enable or disable would be to select the menu option of the TV and index down to the CC option and turn off. Usually a remote is not required to accomplish this procedure.

Cant turn off closed caption

sherrillbrom

With our VIP receiver models, you have an option to turn on/off closed caption through the receiver. Press the Menu button on the remote, which will display the Main Menu on the TV screen. Press 8 (Preferences) and then press 6 (Closed Caption). On the Closed Caption screen, press 1. On the Closed Caption On/Off screen, select CC Off and then press Done from the TV screen (using your DISH remote). This will turn the feature off on the receiver. Test to see if it is turned off by watching a program that has CC. If it still appears, then the feature is activated through your TV. Please refer to your TV manual to turn the feature off. I hope this helps.

• CC 1, 2, 3 or 4
Dialogue (and descriptions) for the action on the captioned TV program

if they are being transmitted.
• T 1, 2, 3 or 4
Often used for channel guide, schedules, bulletin board information for
Closed Captions programs, news, weather informations or stock market
reports.
Not all Caption services are necessarily being used by a TV channel during
the transmission of a Closed Caption program.
