If you press "convection" the oven works just like a regular oven except that the element is on top. In "microwave" it works like a microwave oven. All you have to do is decide which mode you want to use and then punch in the time and hit "start". The glass plate is not really a necessity as long as you make sure there is a load in the oven when you are "microwaving".
This unit is no longer supported by Kenmore. There are also no spare parts available from the manufacturer.
Your best bet would be the secondary market like eBay.
"Locked" on the display is an indication that your microwave oven has a Safety Lock feature that allows you to lock the keyboard. It can inadvertently be set as a result of the consumer pressing and holding the wrong buttons and during power interruptions. You need to refer to the owner's manual under the Operator Controls section to see which buttons you need to press and hold to turn the feature on/off. If you no longer have an owner's manual, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER, so that I can provide you with a more conclusive solution. To answer your initial question, the oven SHOULD still be operational, but it needs to be unlocked in order to fully determine this. I hope this helps you.
NOTE: On many microwave oven models simply pressing and holding the CANCEL/OFF button for 3 to 5 seconds will turn the lock on/off. If not...please let me know.
You can just enter your full
model number at the Sears
parts site. A full Sears/Kenmore
model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as
###.########
On the resulting page, look to the right for the blue "View manuals"
button. Click there.
That Sears-related site has many free manuals. While the manuals they
list there are all free, they will ask you to register.
Many times, the owner's manual will have the installation instructions
inside, too.
If yours is not listed there for free, you would have to order it
through the Sears
parts site.
