You have to check the HDMI cable. In Samsung tvs the HDMI sources only highlights if the a proper HDMI sources is connected to the corresponding HDMI port of the tv. Also check by connecting any other device which have and HDMI connectivity to the HDMI 2 port.

Try pressing the Picture Size or P-Size button. Your remote will have that button.

One of a few things are happening. If you are connected to the TV via the HDMI port and it doesn't become highlighted then either the main board on the TV is at fault, the HDMI output on the media box is not working (try on another TV if possible) or the HDMI cable itself is bad.
Testimonial: "cheers i will give it a go, the v+ box is brand new, the cable is a cheap one but its also new, virgin supplied it, the tv is at least 2 years old!"

Hi
Firstly and would remove all the leads from your TV and check them. If after checking your HDMI leads etc... and its still the same then i would reset the TV to the original Samsung settings. This is completed on your remote control by the following........
Turn your tv to standby, on the remote when in standby press the keys on the remote in the following order........ INFO.........MENU..........MUTE.........POWER ON.
You will now notice the picture comes on with the engineers settings in the background. With the direction keys on the remote scroll down to number 12 (RESET) Then press OK or the right direction key, Your tv will switch off and load the Samsung factory settings. Switch the TV back on and go through the setup procedure.Once completed then try your HDMI again.
If it is still failing then there is a strong possibility that your Eeprom IC on your main AV Board is corrupt and needs replacing. This should only be attempted if you have good soldering skills as they are Surface mounted and very small.
My advise if your skills are not that good is just to replace the main AV board (Scart Board) these usually sell for around £50 but WILL solve your problem.
I have gone trough everything i know here that would cure the fault, most times one of the above three will cure this, but im afraid other times its just time for a new AV board.
Hope iv helped some people out here.
Any comments or thumbs up appreciated.

Hi,
From your description, it would appear that your TV is not receiving an audio signal from the cable box on those specific channels.
I think you are looking in the wrong place by continuing to change settings on the TV and/or receiver. The significant factor is that they are mostly HD channels and you are using an HDMI cable to connect your cable box and TV. If the audio settings are incorrect on your cable box then you wont get any audio on HD channels or via an HDMI cable. This is what I would suggest:
1. Disconnect the digital optical cable between the TV and receiver.
2. Change the audio settings for the TV back to "TV Speaker"
This is only making things more complicated - you need to make sure the TV is receiving and outputting audio from the cable box first.
3. Connect a dedicated RCA type audio cable from the cable box to the TV.
Make sure you connect them to the Audio OUT sockets on the cable box and the Audio IN sockets on the TV. Check the audio on all channels but don't change any settings on the TV or cable box yet. If you now have sound on all channels . . .
4. Disconnect the RCA audio cable and check the audio settings on your cable box.
Open the cable box's on-screen menu using the MENU/SETUP button on your cable remote and locate the audio settings. Make sure the audio-out is set to HDMI and not "Dolby". I can't tell you the correct settings as I don't know which cable box you have, but I'm 90% certain that this is where you should be concentrating your efforts.
If you can let me know the following details, I will be able to assist you further:
1. Brand and model number of cable box and name of cable provider.
2. Model number of the Samsung TV.
3. Were there already any connections between the cable box and the TV other than the HDMI cable, e.g. a separate RCA or other audio cable?
It might also be worth contacting your cable company technical support before posting back here. It is not uncommon for cable boxes to need to be reset or have certain audio out features enabled when connecting via HDMI. Sometimes these features can only be enabled by the cable company. I'm fairly certain this is where the problem is.
Hope this helps - I'll wait to hear back from you.
Regards,
BElectric
