Where's the belt located on the Hoover power path advanced. I think it burnt out.

Does it have a belt drive and is it broken or need cleaning out

something burnt up will need a meter to check and test unit usually smoke is associated with a shorted component

You need to check the brush at the bottom of the machine, it is belt driven and the belt tends to break, you could replace the belt yourself, if that is the problem.

If you have the manual it should show the location of the screws or clips that hold the cover on for the belt.

Are you smelling a burnt rubber smell? If you are, you need to replace your belt. You can get hoover replacement belts here:

your belt has probobly stretched even though it continues to function. try a new belt assuming the belt path is clear and any guides are properly positioned when the cover is properly replaced and the hump on the brush roll that contacts the belt is not mishapen.

Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.
