We have a new LG LDS 5811BB dishwasher, that has only been functional for about a month and a half. All of a sudden I have an error code of LE. What does this mean? It ran fine the day before yesterday.
Yes this certainly is a sticking point, the inside of the panel is coated with black insulation, when it heats up the wires stick in it and eventually the wires break. The fix is as stated, splice the broken wires together, as well take some of the white insulation and put it in between the wires and the liner.
The errors that can arise from the sticky wires are numerous, LE, IE, etc. EI though is more than likely a siphoning problem. If your unit is noisey during operation, open the door, what is the water level? It should be at the second rim. If not, that is your first clue that the unit is siphoning. Make sure you have your loop in the drain hose.

Well...... I have 3 major points to make!
1) This web site is fantastic. My daughters LG 5811 had failed and we went shopping for dishwashers last night. We have a Bosch and I pointed her that way. But before we made a purchase I suggested to her that I should check the internet and see if this is a common problem (weird codes). That is when I found this site. I did as others have done, and removed the six screws which holds the lower door panel on her LG. Lo and Behold, there were the burnt wires, which were melted into the black tar. It was, at most a 20 minute job of soldering, taping and tie wrapping the bad wires. In addition, I took an old bicycle tube and wrapped the entire wire harness in the door so that the melting will not happen again. Thanks to all here, it has saved my daughter from $700.00 to $1,200!
2) LG has a MAJOR design flaw in this dishwasher. I retired from aerospace manufacturing and this design is so bad, I would call it a "Bad Design" if it was used in an "Out House"! LG should stand up to their obligations to build a product that works most of the time. I am not saying that it must be a great design. Just a design that works must of the time, and is NOT a HAZARD, as this design surely is! We were considering a LG LCD flat panel TV. Even if their flat panel LCD are decent, I would not purchase on today, based on their corporate ethic! I am going to persure this issue with LG and will post later on the reaction I get!
3) And in closing, my daughter thinks I can "Fix Things"... but all the thanks goes to those here that took the time to make the posts! Thanks again.
Try the fix..... remove 6 screws and you can see if the burnt wires are your issue. It is easy and clean to complete this task.
I have tried this fix twice with great results; however, problem has returned. I will now by a new wiring harness and never by any L G products again.

The most common reason for repair on an LG dishwasher LDS5811ST is the inner door panel and its insulation on the back side. When the dishwasher heats up in its cycle the tar like insulation on the inner door panel softens and the wires sink into the substance. After the cycle completes and the insulation cools back down it then has the wires locked in place so when you go to open the door the wires cant give any slack and snap. Depending on which wires break depends on your error code. If it is a wire going to motor you will get an LE error which suggests a motor issue but is actually a wiring issue. Since the issue has arrived LG has added a fabric between the wires in the door and the insulation to order for repair but have done nothing on behalf of their customers as far as a rework or a recall regarding the issue. This whole thing is not only frustrating to a customer but dangerous. I have seen doors that shock you when touched and even a internal fire or two due to the broken wires. Plus most people fight tooth and nail to have LG pay for the design flaw and end up with more of a headache and no help. If anyone reads any of these tips DO NOT simply repair the broken wires cause the issue is still there. Make sure you put something between the insulation/tar like stuff and the wires so the wires dont sink back into the stuff again and your back at square 1.

I had a LE code on my LDS5811WW LG dishwasher.
I did what everybody says and open the door panel to find a
broken wire. The plastic wire holder edges cut it off. Just splice
the broken wire then re-attach them with a **** splice connector
did the trick. While door is off, check for other wires that can be
damage and cover them with electrical black tape. As a final
touch you should cover the edge of the wire holder with a foam
glued inside. Only the edge cause that what causing the wire
to get cut.

Same problem - found melted/broken wires engulfed in the black (tar) insulation. I soldered them and inspected the rest for damage. Also put a barrier between the wires and black insulation to prevent recurrence.
It's definitely a design flaw and when I spoke to LG the ONLY thing they had to say was it's beyond the warranty period.
Bottom line LG is banned from our family and we'll make sure friends are aware of their lack of customer responsibility.

My error code was "OE".
After taking everything apart, looking for a broken impeller, burned out motor, or clogged drain I had to call in the service guy.
$85 later, he found two broken wires which he fixed with a wire nut and tape!
This problem needs to be headlined on this site for all to find!!
I have had the same problem twice. My husband found this site and thanks to you guys he fixed the problem. I found information that there is a recall on this dishwasher? Does anyone else have any information on this. There was very little information.
I think I spent $900.00 on a lemon. I have lds5811st I too, have an error code LE. Which they tell me is a computer error and it needs to be replaced or the pump. I have had mine 15 months. I ordered my dishwasher but didn't take delivery until all appliances came in. So I have to eat the expenses myself. A 900.00 dishwasher, Less than 2 years old and now I have to pay to have it fixed. The best part no one will service where I live. Gurantee I will not reccomend this to anyone else. The best part I can affect this, I work for a national retailer who sells them.
It is a problem that exists in the inner door liner with the wires. There is also a recommendation from the company that the harness and motor be replaced as well. We have had our dishwasher for one year and this is the problem we are facing now. LG's customer service SUCKS and they are not standing behind the fact that this happened due to a liner issue! Good luck - I would suggest getting rid of it and avoiding LG for anything!
We purchased our LG lds5811ww in 2005. Our error code is "HE" (heating circuit failure). Our repairman found the same black goo and melted control board wires and replaced the entire control board and wire harness (control board under warranty, wire harness not). Anyway - This all didn't start until about 2008 and continues until this day. We;ve had three control boards put in and no help whatsoever from LG. A crappy company, a crappy product ... I'll never buy from them again! We've thrown enough money away - we're going this weekend to buy a new dishwasher.
On September 15, 2009, I purchased a LG Dishwasher Model LDS5811WW. Four months later the dishwasher stopped working due to an "EO" error. The Owner's Manual in the Troubleshooting section states that an "EO" error means there is drainage trouble. After finding this website and reading about the problems and salutions others had with the wiring in the front panel, I removed the six screws on the back of the lower front panel and found no wiring issues. To further investigate, I removed the eight screws on the back of the top panel to inspect the wiring in the upper section. Once again, I found no wiring issues. I then reinstalled all the panels on the unit and began to probe deeper. I disconnecting the water supply and draininage hoses and the electrical plug from where they were all connected under my sink. I also removed the two screws which secured the dishwaster under the countertop. Before removing the unit from the cabinet, I found it the easiet to connect a wet-vac to the disherwasher drainage line using duct tape to **** out the water which remained in the bottom of the unit. Finally I pulled the dishwater out completely from the cabinet and laid it over face first to expose the bottom of the unit. I removed the two screws which secured the silver bottom plate to the unit to expose the water pump as well as all the other components, hoses, and wiring. I removed the three screws which secured the water pump to the bottom manifiold and low and behold found a rubber crommet (origination unknown) lying in the base which seemed to prevent the pump from working properly resulting in the "EO" error. Once the grommet was removed, the water pump and bottom plate re-installed. I stood the unit back up and re-installed it in the cabinet, reconnected the hoses and electrical connection, wallah, it worked fine.
I have a LDS5811 dishwasher, and I had the same problem with the flashing "LE" on the display, and yup, two broken wires on the harness behind the front panel. Easy fix. Thanks to everyone who took the time to post the solution to this seemingly common problem with the burnt and broken wires. Definitely a design flaw from LG, which they should be ashamed of !
Ok I fixed it. 2 broken wires in the door stuck in the black sticky stuff. Soldered them together and taped them. Works fine now.

Have this same issue after one year. It is a problem due to a revision that should have been made on the door liner, which causes issues with the wires. LG suggests not only fixing that, but also replacing the harness and motor. I spent $800 on this dishwasher and would not spend 1 cent to talk to LG's customer service. They are unhelpful and do not wish to resolve the problem.

Please help! LG Dishwasher LDS5811 - I have had nothing but problems with this machine since I got it. I am getting E1 codes every 2nd or 3rd time I use it - sometimes it will go the whole cycle ok but the dishes are kind of dirty (residue in bottom of glasses and dishes not great) so I have to hand wash them anyway.It makes a loud whirring noise sometimes during the wash cycle. Tech has been here 3 times to fix - replaced Motor once and next time replaced the flow meter. The next problem was worse - it leaked through my kitchen floor and into the basement (just refinished) - called the tech. again - told them about the damage. They now are telling me that it my problem (7 mths) installed wrong by me? - it needs air gap between the machine and the drain (slightly below floor within 40"). Not sure what he did but not leaking now (good) but still get E1 code? Mach. is still under mfg. warranty? Would syphonage action cause it to leak? Is this an honest evaluation? Thanks
Was able to fix mine by removing the large door panel in front and splicing 2 wires that had broken from being glued down and able to flex. Easy fix when you know what to look for. 1 hour tops.
We had our LG dishwasher for over 2 years and last night, with full racks of dishes, we get the "LE" error. Called the LG Customer Support number this morning and was incredibly dissapointed with their response. The guy, Ron, was not helpful and didn't listen to my problem. He told me my warranty expired and that I had to call a local repair shop. Now, I used to repair medical electronics, so a dishwasher does not intimidate me. All I wanted to know was what the error code indicated and he would not tell me. After going online, I found several different Forums that talked about the "LE" error code and the wiring problem. When I get home tonight, I'm cracking the skins and hopefully find some damaged wires in the door. 20 minutes with the soldering iron and heat-shrink and it should be as good as new!

Ditto - all the problems listed with the LG5811 dishwasher listed in this posting: "Sticky goop" from the back of the door causing wires in the harness to cement into the goop and break. "Sticky goop" from the back of the door fouling the connectors on the PCB causing overheating and resulting board failure. BTW: Dishwasher was intermittently displaying an error code of "PF" which is not even listed in the LG manual. Poor quality drain hose which "rubbed through" (inside of the dishwasher) because of normal motor vibration and leaked water into the basement - had to repair and repaint the ceiling below. Poor quality plastic clips and rollers in the wash tub which last only 6 to 8 months before needing replacement. etc. etc. etc. The LG service division just keeps ducking. Thankfully I bought a 5 year extended service plan (the two year warranty from LG ran out about 6 months ago) from another company. The tech. just left. He is ordering a new inner door, a PCB, a new wiring harness, a new drain hose, a new set of plastic clips, etc. This is definitely the dishwasher from hell. The LG engineers who designed this piece of junk should all be fired (if they already haven't been). This dishwasher model should simply be recalled and replaced by LG. In my opinion there is no excuse for not recalling this piece of junk unless LG is more interested in saving money than in saving customers... There used to be a company called British Leyland who made cars and treated their customers the same way as LG. British Leyland went bankrupt!
Not only are we getting an LE code on our LG 5811ww, we have had a constant problem with the rollers on the top shelf shattering. Our diswasher is 3 years old, and we started having this issue within weeks of purchase. Calls to the company yielded nothing: we had to get our local repair shop to fax them a request for warranty repair before they would authorize it and the local repair shop said they couldn't touch the machine with out warranty authorization from LG. Talk about a runaround!
Finally, after dozens of phone calls just asking for replacement rollers, they sent us a box of them. For some other model. A few dozen more calls and another box arrives. Of the same rollers. More calls and one day, the doorbell rang. They'd just sent us a whole new rack. Fine by me, but those rollers are now coming apart. So far, Gorilla Glue has kept them together
Not only do I tell anyone who will listen not to buy junk from LG, I purchase electronics for my school. Needless to say, my school does NOT own anything made by this terrible manufacturer.

My lds5811 dishwasher will start a cycle. You can hear it pump out the water in the bottom of the machine, then run fresh water. But after that it makes chiming noise and flashes LE fault. It won't do anything but that. We have already had the pump replaced under warranty 9 mos ago.
lg model lds5811bb turn machine on any cycle fills with water then LE light comes on. am able to cancel cycle pumps water out and shuts off.will not go thourgh any cycle help.
Amazing I was looking at fixya because my dish machine was showing a code of LE and read the issues that others were having....so I checked out the wiring problems others have had and found two wires burned in half...you were right the black tar like product had melted around the wires and the heat of the dish machine while operating had melted them into the tar...the could not move from the vibration and had cracked and burned in two..a quick fix of 15-20 minutes and the machine was up and running...Thank You for your comments..saved me serious $$$$$$$$ in repair bills..
I hade the same LE error code problem and LG gave me 2 repair numbers I callled and left messages neither called me back. Best buy, where I bought it said the they called LG and said my 2 year warranty was only good in Canada. I called a Maytag repair man Friend in another city that does not work on LG and he was going to get in touch with LG as they wanted him to work on There junk. I found this web site and my problem was the same as all the others described Mine was 18 months old. I am going to complain to who ever controls these products AS THIS IS A SHOCK/FIRE HAZARD.
Just wanted thank you all very much. Had the same error code LE on my LDS 5811BB. Removed the the lower 3 screws on each side of the door, removed the lower front panel, examined the wires by the black tar-like insulation. Found one broken wire, a light blue wire. Soldered it back together. Just ran a test and all is well. Thanks again, you all saved me hundreds of $!
I have model LDS5811WW and I get the LE error code three months after
it was bought. The repair man replaced the motor. One year after the
same thing. We took the motor apart and the magnet inside was split all
the way through. LG did not want to do anything about it since the
warranty was over by two months. The whole lemon policy of repairing it
three times and will with a new complete dishwasher one was not
respected. Stuck with a two year old dishwasher which is broken. Also
the wash cycles are extremely long and still leave dishes dirty. It
also guzzles jet dry. Can anyone tell me if there is another motor that
can be used in its place before I place the dishwasher on the side of

I just got off the phone with LG. I told them that the wiring in the door is a bad design and a hazarous design.
They stated that it is a "Known Problem", and LG will replace the door at no cost to customers, "In or Out of Warranty"!
I TURNED ON DISHWASHER AND THE LE LIGHT CAME ON.
FlyingAvanti where are you from? I have the same problem(LE codes on a LDF7810 and called LG and they have no bulletin for the door.
I called them again and pushed the fact that my door (as you said) is bad design and hazardous. They FINALLY took my real info down and said they would end it to the warranty team.
If i have to fix (even the wires) of this machine or worse a motor I will NEVER buy LG for anything and never again buy a new up and company again!!!!

I have the same LE error. Cycles are taking twice as long as the timer says. I'm going to try and check the wires like all the posts above, did anyone else have the same issue withe it not draining properly? I will never buy or recommend LG to anyone again, my two year warrenty expired less than two weeks ago and they wanted nothing to do with me other than charge me to come out and look at it!

I too have an LDS5811 and am getting LE error code. I'll have my husband check the wires in the door tonight! My dishwasher is 1 1/2 months out of warrenty, of course! Two months ago I had to have the sump assembly replaced (under warrenty thank heavens). LG customer service stinks--big time!!! Since, in this area anyway (suburban Chicago) there are only a few repair services that handle LG it is tough. Thinking I will be out shopping for a new dishwasher this weekend--and definitely not an LG!

I have had the LG Model LGS5811 since Dec 2006 and it has performed ok. Not excellent for the $. But I after doing the basic job it's suppose to do for the past 2+ years with hardly any noise (had to put my ear to the door), it started a whirling noise and I got the LE error code. I hoping since I purchased a 2 year extended warranty through Home Depot that they will be able to fix this issue. I guess we will see. I will be calling them tomorrow. If not, well I just purchased 3 more LG appliances at Best Buy that have not yet been delivered. That order will be canceled if I get the runaround with LG!
Wow. I can't believe I found this blog. I have the LG LDS5811WW and I have an LE code. I have an extended service contract and it has been 3 days on the phone with GE and LG is not only hanging up on me after I explain the problem, but customer service does'nt want to deal with it. The agent puts you on hold and then they hang up. What a bunch of scum bags they are! My extended service contract is with GE and the technician from Keystone Apppiance came and left in 5 minutes. Said he had no parts for the machine and had to order the parts and could take 2 weeks. Then he calls me back and says there is a recall on the machine and to call LG. LG states there is no recall. It evident that neither LG, GE, and the service company want to address this problem. Well I have new for them. LG is going to get a big surprise. I'm from Long Island and people talk, news spreads fast. They'll be lucky to sell an freakin gum rapper with LG on it when I'm done with them. Do the right thing LG...
