Check for Overload:
Ensure that you haven't exceeded the shredder's maximum capacity. Overloading the shredder can lead to jams.
Feed the paper in a steady and consistent manner, avoiding sudden force or crumpled sheets.

Switch to Reverse Mode:
If a jam occurs, switch the shredder to reverse mode. This will help dislodge any stuck paper.
Gently remove the jammed paper from the feed slot.
Inspect the Feeding Entry:
Make sure the feeding entry of the shredder is not blocked or jammed.
If there's any debris or paper stuck, carefully remove it.

Check the Cutting Blades and Gears:
The gears driving the cutting blades may be stripped or worn out.
If you suspect this, consider contacting technical support for assistance.

Ativa Shredder. It seems to be stuck in reverse?

Question edited for clarity and spelling of maker 'atvia' to 'Ativa'.

If it is only running in reverse the most likely cause is a faulty switch as the switch just reverses the polarity of the power to the motor. Also check that nothing is covering the proximity sensor in the throat of the shredder.

The shredder will only constantly run in the "Reverse" mode. The trigger located in the center of the feed entry slot, which activates the shredder, may be blocked. To clear it, you would need to insert an index card or file folder (i.e. rigid paper or cardstock) in the center of the feed slot and apply force.

Omnitech shredder model ot--exc10a , shredder runs but when insert paper to shred it stops, pull out paper and it runs non stop!

Sounds like there's blockage between rollers and it also jams the sensor so auto function stops working. You will need to clear out as much jammed paper as you can using tweezers. Inspect the centre of the feed opening, there should be sensor which must be clear of blockages and moving freely. So clear any stuck paper with tweezers, in addition you can soak any jammed paper with WD-40 and unit should be good as new. Although if sensor arm is damaged then replacement of such sensor is unavoidable.

On most shredders ideal unjamming would be by trying the reverse, if that fails there's 2 options: 1 - opening the unit by removing screws (usually 5) and using small narrow flat screwdriver carefully clearing out all the stuck paper/cardboard from in between two rollers, but be carefull and make sure the power cord is NOT plugged into wall socket. 2 - without dissassembling the unit spray some WD-40 into the shredders feed opening and let that cardboard soak for a while. WD-40 will soak into cardboard and any stuck paper and will loosen it, you might need to spray couple of times allowing to soak in between sprays, but this definitely does the trick. Once sprayed 2-3 times allowing to soak for at least 10 minutes between sprays simply swich the shredder on and use reverse and all stuck paper should come out. Be advised after unit was cleared you must use some spray oil to protect the blades. Once oiled allow unit to run in reverse for at least 2 minutes, the swich it off. 15-20 minutes later your shredder will be good as new!! Hope this helps ;)

The shredder was paper jammed

Hi,

Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds.

Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled.

Follow instructions to oil your shredder;

To keep your shredder in top condition, the cutting blades need to be oiled every so often (for frequency, please refer to your owner's manual). We recommend using Powershred® Lubricant or a vegetable-based oil (such as corn or canola) in a non-aerosol container with an extension nozzle.

Caution: Never use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol lubricants to oil the cutting blades. Some agents may combust, causing serious injury. NEVER USE WD40.

1. Depress and hold the reverse button down.
2. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps the length of the entry while squeezing the oil bottle.
3. Move the power switch to Auto (I) position, or depress the manual forward button (depending on model of shredder) and allow the blades to run at least three seconds.
4. Move the power switch to Reverse (R) position and allow it to run for at least three seconds.
5. Repeat steps three and four above at least three time.

Regards.

My fellowes paper shredder is not operating. we have lifted the shredder head and fitted it back on the basket but nothing happened

Hi,
Instructions
Step 1 Shut off the shredder. Unplug it and let in cool down for up to one hour. This will work if the shredder has stopped due to excessive use.
Step 2 Check to see if the shredder is jammed. This is the most common cause of shredder problems. Click the power switch to reverse, which should clear a minor jam. If not, set the shredder to auto, and then to reverse again until the jam clears.
Step 3 Clear extremely stubborn paper jams by grabbing the stuck paper and gently pulling it out. If smaller pieces of paper cause the jam, shut off the shredder and unplug it. When it cools down, carefully use a pair of tweezers to remove the paper bits.
Step 4 Determine if the power supply to the shredder is working properly. If the power supply is cold, use an alternative source of electricity for your shredder. If it is warm, there may be a problem with the shredder itself. Call your office machine repair shop or the shredder manufacturer for assistance.
Step 5 Sharpen or oil the blades. Shredder blades need to be oiled on a regular basis to keep your machine in proper working order. Get oil made specifically for shredder blades from an office supply store.
Good Luck!

I have been using my shredder heavily in the last 30 minutes. I have had to stop twice for it to cool down. It was working fine, and now it won't accept paper. The cutters are turning fine. It is not...

Most shredders don't recommend use for more than 20-25 sheets in a session. Try using the reverse setting; even though you can't see paper, it's possible that there's some still in the feed channel. If after switching to reverse paper comes out, inspect the feed channel for more paper and clear any you find before trying to feed more sheets. Also in the future, constant use as you've described will burn out the motor.
