Why is it now squealing when in spin mode - Dryers

  • Amanda Drew
    Amanda Drew Nov 08, 2017

That must be really annoying that your dryer is squealing when you put it in spin mode. Mine is also struggling. It's making a loud banging whenever I turn it on, and it starts a cycle. It's kind of disturbing. We should probably both find someone who does dryer repair to fix our problems. http://www.collierappliance.com/services...

My dryer is squealing and won't spin

It sounds like the drum is frozen. The squealing is from the motor slipping on the belt. There may also be something keeping the belt from tightning. Try these links:

My 2007 avalon squeals every time I put the AC on? What should I do?

Make sure its simply not the A/C tensioner thats gone bad. You might just have to replace that one. There's absolutely no reason a belt should be the culprit unless it is tearing or ripped so you can look for wear and tear on the belts. Most likely a pulley is out of alignment or the pulley bearing is just starting to squeal when it gets wet. But it can still squeal if its dry outside.

Take the belt off and spin it with your hand, if it squeaks, its bad. I had to replace one years ago, they just go bad. Make sure the A/C compressor isn't whats squealing too, and the other top pulleys too. Sometimes you can be fooled on where the squeal is really coming from. Spin everything that can be spun, by hand.

1982 Maytag Washer model LA210, drive belt squeal after spin.

That is usually normal. That is the sound of the brake applying against the tub to stop it. Smaller loads will be longer because the tub is moving faster and it takes longer to slow down.

When only used in spin mode, machine refuses to get up to speed, and squeals loudly. Could it be the drum brake which is actuated when the lid is opened?

Hi just read your posting,Now is the machine noisy when the spin 1st starts, this is when the pump starts pumping the water out,or when the bowl is turning. This machine has no drum brake. The polarity on the motor is reversed to stop the bowl from spinning. Please reply with additional information and I am sure I can help you.Looking forward to your reply.

Simpson Encore 605 - belt sometimes squeals during spin .What maintenance should I do? Spins fine - just squeals from time to time.

Many washers squeal when spin starts. A new belt usually solves it. A bit of belt dressing for car fan belts works wonders. **unplug it while you apply belt dressing!
There is usually a tension adjustment by moving the motor mount back a small amount. Don't over do the tension.

possible causes are:

bra wire stuck in tub and rubs against the drum and squeals when on spin.

lip seal at front of bearings squealing - this is a difficult repair

Loud squeal during wash and spin cycles, maytag atlantis washer

Squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.

If part of a belt gets torn and it is long enough, it will hit any part of the washing machine within range and make a clicking noise at every revolution of the motor.

I am pretty sure you need new belts. You should be able to remove a few screws and open the back cover. Between the pulleys there is a tensioner...loosen that so you can remove the belt easily. replace it with a new belt and adjust the tension.

hope this helps
