Trace the throttle cable from the handle to the(carb or throttle body).Either the cable is broken,it has come off at one end,or the throttle handle or a piece of linkage is broken or loose.(this is a pretty basic problem-you can do it!)
- The handle may not be installed properly, causing a loss in the power connection. Remove the handle completely. Slide the handle back into place on the lower section of handle and tighten the screw.
The power switch is on the back of the handle. If that dosen't turn the unit on take the handle off and put it back on make sure its tight. If still nothing then its defective. Bissell says not to return it to the store contact a service center. If you have never used it return it.
trace the cable to the connection on the motor.check that throttle lever is connected to cable, and lever moves when throttle is turned.cable may have broken.
I would check the door lock actuator and the actual linkage. you need to remove the outside handle assembly for full inspection. on your model year car the linkages sometime wear out at a camon the handle that rotates the linkage. sounds really like you have worn linkage/handle.
