Need to see a picture of the type of trap. There are many different versions of traps. All will have a trigger that will release the grabbing or holding device on the trap. If you look carefully and study your trap, it is possible that you will be able to figure it out. Hopefully, since you wrote this question a long time ago, you have allready did that and you do not have hundreds of gophers digging up your yard.

Buy regular di-electric nipples at local box store plumbing department instead of heat trap nipples.

If you go ahead and install the heat-trap nipples, look inside the nipple.
Look past the plastic bar that divides down middle.
Notice that one end has insert inside the pipe. While other end does not have insert.
End with insert goes into water heater first.

Notice also if you blow into the heat trap nipple that air flow is constricted.
If air flow is constricted, then water will also be constricted.
This is why heat trap nipples are not recommended.

Do heat traps save money. Yes, but make your own by reconfiguring pipes. Save $9.20 per year electric heater, $4.00 per year gas heater.
You can save more money by maintaining water heater, which pays about 10$ per month in future replacement costs.
Or fix leaks, and install dual-handle faucets so lifting single handle faucet in middle does not continually run cold water into tank. This saves $2-$8 per month.

They didn't have my exact model number so I looked it up by type and found something with enough model numbers matching that it was actually a good match for the manual as well. What worked for me: "To empty the glass trap: 1. Grasp the glass trap's handle and rotate it 900 clockwise while pressing down on the center of the wash arm. 2. Grab the spray arm in the center and lift the spray arm and glass trap assembly up and out from the dishwasher. 3. Tip the assembly over an appropriate container and tap it to empty the glass trap. OR, separate the glass trap - pull the glass trap handle toward you, then up, then further toward you to slide it away from the rest of the assembly; empty it into an appropriate container; then slide the glass trap back into the assembly. 4. Place the assembly back into position, press down on the arm at the center and rotate the glass trap handle 900 counterclockwise being sure the glass trap ends in the orientation shown in the image above. To avoid damage to your unit make sure the spray arm and glass trap are fully snapped in place."
