Those things work off of suction, which spins a cog wheel that rotates and spins brush via a small belt. Disassemble the brush and check belt. Make sure the apparatus is clean and free of debris

I'm not sure what my original problem was but this is what happened with me:
1) The brush wasn't spinning.
2) I took it apart and there was a piece of yarn wound around the brush cylinder so I took it off.
3) Put it back together, still wouldn't spin.
4) Took it apart again and noticed a black rubber band had broken on the back section. Took it off, hoping it wasn't necessary.
5)Still wouldn't work, then I noticed that the front section of "cover" wasn't closed all the way even though the back end closed ok with that square "button" clicking.
6) Opened it up again and realized that the "tabs" on each side of the brush ends weren't properly seated into the slots of both top and bottom housings. This, to me, is easily overlooked.
7) Voila, it worked!! Just hoping the absence of that rubber piece on one side of the "cog wheel" doesn't later mess things up.
